“I don’t know. Like rule one, I think people will talk if they don’t see us together,” I answered.
I brushed my leg against hers under the table, and she jumped in response.
“It’s a hard no for me. No sleeping together. If people delve into us that closely then they can just fuck off. It’s healthy to have some boundaries anyway. Let Aiden’s viewers learn a thing or two about that.”
“Yes, ma’am, your urchin room will stay yours. I will stick to the solitude of my coral room.”
I so badly wanted to remind her of the way she had urged me to stay the night before. And the way her face lit up when I said I would.
“Good. Now that all of that’s settled, we should go get ready for spa day.”
The downpour was drenching everything in sight, and the wind beat against the walls. I wondered how the hell we’d even get to the main strip of town intact.I held up the umbrella, which was almost pointless to use with how insane the rain was and let my palm rest on the curve of her low back. She twisted her neck to look at where our bodies touched and her eyes widened.
“Rule number one, Coby.”
I removed my hand with a huff, but every fiber of my being itched to touch her, to have a possessive hand on any part of her body. Before we reached the exit, Kendahl stopped short, causing the umbrella to knock into the old wooden door.
“I just realized something.”
“Yeah?”
“You never told me what’s in it for you? Why go through with this whole charade?I know you’re not a guy who shies away from the spotlight.” I grinned at that. “But to play these games, there must be something in it for you?”
I shrugged, feigning indifference. “Maybe I feel like an ass for walking out on you the way I did. Maybe I want to make it up to you in any way I can.”
Her eyes narrowed. “I don’t buy that for a second. There must be something in it for you.”
I positioned my mouth right over her soft earlobe. “Maybe I’m waiting for the moment that you admit you want me as much as I want you. Maybe I like to watch you squirm so badly that you won’t be able to think straight until I’ve made you scream my name.”
I grazed her skin, ever so lightly, with the edge of my teeth and felt a shiver course through her body. She shoved me off and huffed away from me.
“The only screaming I’ll be doing is when I’ll be telling you to fuck off.”
I had my work cut out for me but watching that perfect ass as she strutted through the door and out into the pouring rain without the umbrella made me want to earn every second I could with that woman.
Chapter 14
Kendahl
Gingercorralledourgroupof six women into her transporter van. We tried to argue that we were fully capable of driving, but she insisted that the girls and guys get split up. Jill whispered to Mia, Avery, and me to go with it.
With the way the rain pelted the van and the wind howled, I was glad to have someone who knew where they were going behind the wheel. It wasn’t long before we arrived at the island’s only spa located directly across from the beach. Thanks to the foggy van windows, I couldn’t make out much of the exterior of the spa, but it was much larger than I would have thought.
“Here we are, Serenity Spa. Out you go.” Ginger idled, waiting for us to unload like a group of schoolchildren. “Tim will be back to pick you up in a few hours. Enjoy!”
We ran toward the doors, screeching and avoiding massive puddles in the sandy parking area.
“Oh my God,” I huffed as we entered the dimly lit lobby. “I feel like a drowned rat.” I breathed in the comforting lavender scented air while I wiped drops of water from my brow line.
Mia chuckled and readjusted her bun. “But a cute, drowned rat though.”
I swatted her, but we were interrupted by a pair of spa employees dressed in black polo shirts and loose-fitted pants.
“Welcome. You must be the Marin wedding party?” one of them asked in a serene voice that was a direct contrast to the pelting rain. “I’m Sara, and this is Liam.” She gestured to her right at the ridiculously tall and insanely handsome man beside her. He waved and flashed us a friendly grin. “We’re going to get you all checked in. It looks like the rest of your party hasn’t arrived yet?”
Jill stepped forward. “Not yet, we took separate vehicles. I’m Jill, by the way.”
“Our lovely bride,” Sara beamed. “We’re so happy to have you all today. Thanks for braving the weather. It’s pretty wild out there.”
