“The one what?”He glanced at Faith.“Go make sure someone is coming to help her.”

Faith ran off, leaving them alone.“He has little Zoey.Didn’t you see?”

He shook his head.“See what?”

“The birthmark on his hand.It was the dagger.”Her eyelids fluttered closed after that, and he held her closer.Fuck.This shouldn’t be happening. How the hell had that guy gotten past security to begin with?

Not long after that the paramedics came and started working on her.She had lost a lot of blood. So much blood… Harrison had it all over him.He didn’t know what to do.He had never felt so helpless.First, he hadn’t been able to help his Linc and Zoey, and now he was watching the love of his life being rolled away on a gurney. Why did this keep happening?

“She’ll be fine,” Faith said.“I refuse to believe otherwise.”

Harrison nodded absentmindedly.“Yes, she will.”

“How long has this been going on between you and my sister?”Faith asked.

He turned toward her.“What?”

“How long have you been in love with Ashlyn?”Her tone was soft as she spoke.“and how long has she loved you?”

Harrison shrugged.“I can’t speak to your sister’s feelings.”She had always kept things close and didn’t share much.He had started to believe she might care for him.“I’m not sure what she…” He shook his head.“It doesn’t matter right now.”

Faith put her hand on his arm.“Trust me.Ashlyn cares deeply for you.She ran to save you.She doesn’t do that.Ever.She’s methodical and takes her time with decisions. If she has a vision, she analyzes it first before she shares it.You have her heart.I’d bet everything on that.”

“I wish I could believe you.”He blew out a breath.“But you are right about me.I’ve loved her for a long, long time. It’s time I fight for her.”

“Yes,” she agreed.“Let’s go to the hospital. She’s going to need both of us when she wakes.”

“Before you go,” a familiar man said.“I have some questions.”

Harrison met the lieutenant’s gaze.“Can it wait?”

“No,” he said.“I’m afraid not.It appears that the man that stabbed Ashlyn and Lincoln Bouchard has held a grudge against you and your friend.Ashlyn just had the poor taste to get in the man’s way.”

“Pardon me,” he began.“What?”He had to have heard the lieutenant wrong.“Who is it?”

Lieutenant Netom glanced down at his notepad.“Bryson Peters.”He glanced up.“Do you recognize that name?”

Harrison frowned, then it hit him.“He was the coach’s son. From college.I didn’t talk to him much or pay him any attention.I remember Coach Peters saying how disappointed he was that his son didn’t have any talent for hockey.”

“He blamed you and Lincoln Bouchard for his failed relationship with his father. So he decided to hurt you both.I think he only planned on stabbing Lincoln on the beach. But kidnapping his daughter appealed to him last minute. We have officers dispatched to his residence to find her.”

God, Harrison hadn’t even considered that part. He’d been so consumed with worry over Ashlyn.“If we are done…”

“We would like to go to the hospital. My sister was stabbed,” Faith reminded the lieutenant.

“That’s all for now.If I have any further questions, I’ll contact you,” Lieutenant Netom told him.“We’re all pulling for Ashlyn. She’s invaluable to the department.”

She was more than her visions, but Harrison wouldn’t say that now.Instead, he nodded and led Faith to his truck. Then they headed to the hospital. She had to make it…

Ashlyn woketo the sounds of beeping echoing around her.She glanced to her side and saw some machines monitoring her vitals. She went to move and moaned.Pain shot through her from her abdomen. She wouldn’t be trying that again anytime soon.

“Easy,” Faith said.“You don’t want to open any stitches.”

“How long have I been out?”

“About eight months,” she said in a solemn tone.

Ashlyn glared at her.For half a second, she was still too out of it to process her sister’s words.“Impossible,” she said in an irritated tone.“I’d have healed in that amount of time, and far weaker than I am now.”
