CHAPTER 37

“The end is here…”

ISABELLE CAMPBELL

Six Months Later

Colin and I got married last month.

It was a simple ceremony, held right here at the mansion. We both agreed that’s how we wanted it—intimate, with only the people who truly mattered in our lives.

We asked Lauren and Henry to be our best man and maid of honor, and I swear there was some flirting going on after the ceremony. But honestly, knowing Colin’s friend—and knowing Lauren—I can’t say I was surprised.

As for the wedding itself…I cried. A lot. I know, that’s not exactly new for me, but this time it felt different. It was special. I’d never felt truly loved by any man before, and now I can say I’ve found the love of my life.

A stubborn, hardheaded, hot-tempered, restless man… but still, gorgeous, charming—

Okay, I’m getting carried away. It’s just that… I find myself admiring him more and more every day, even knowing how Colin can be about certain things. We’re very different, but now I realize those differences are exactly what make us work so well together. Was it hard at first? Yeah, it was. But when love’s involved, everything changes.

And it did.

Every day, I hear the words “I love you.” Not just from him—From Hanna and Joshua, too.

Those two are practically glued to me all the time, and for the first time, I feel what it means to have a family. Truly. I can honestly say I’m happier than I’ve ever been… blessed with a home that’s full of laughter, warmth, and love.

COLIN ADAMS

We were at the grand opening of the mansion I’d promised my friend James Sullivan.

It had taken me a while to get everything just right, but in the end, it all came together perfectly.

Isabelle had helped me with the design—something she hadn’t believed she was capable of at first. Typical of her, she’d hesitated, worried James wouldn’t like her ideas and that she’d end up taking the blame if anything went wrong.

It took some convincing, but she finally agreed to work with me. And honestly, she’s got real talent—and no, that’s not me being biased. Her sense of space is sharp, and that made all the difference.

“So Isabelle was nervous, huh?” James Sullivan said, slipping closer to me. She wasn’t nearby at the moment.

“Very. She thought she might ruin the project.”

“Nonsense!”

“I agree. She was a huge help—and she’s got a great eye.”

“That’s actually what I wanted to talk to you about.” James’s tone turned serious. “Unfortunately, I’ve foundsomeone better to design my homes. You’re fired, Colin Adams. Isabelle’s replacing you.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. “No problem. For her, I’ll take the hit.”

We both burst out laughing, and a few seconds later Isabelle joined us. James greeted her with a hug.

“We were just talking about firing your husband,” he said.

“I knew I shouldn’t have helped him! What did we mess up? The entrance? The hall? I told you—” she started to panic, but James’s laughter cut her off.

The old man still had his sense of humor.

“Actually, I’d fire him and hire you instead,” he said.

A shy smile tugged at her lips. “Oh, I don’t even know what to say—thank you.”
