“You’re what’s wrong with me! I should’ve never let myself kiss you!”

It’s official. The man isn’t just an ogre—he’s absolutely deranged.

“I can’t believe what I’m hearing.”

“Believe it!” he shouted before storming off.

I will never understand men—especially the arrogant ones with a God complex.

CHAPTER 8

“Ah, kids and their questions…”

ISABELLE CAMPBELL

“I’m telling you, he’s insane!”

Lauren was staring at me like I’d grown a second head, clearly not grasping the full reason behind my outrage. I’d told her bits and pieces about what happened—and how my so-called working relationship with my boss was going.

“I thought he hated you!” she said, raising her brows, studying my face for a few seconds like she was trying to read the whole story from it.

“So did I!” I threw my arms up. “Everything was fine when he hated me and… wasn’t kissing me.”

“Ew, girl!Is he that bad of a kisser?”

“That’s the problem. It’s the exact opposite.”

And that’s where things get complicated…

I feel guilty for enjoying his touch—because it’s obvious how much he despises me. Hell, he hates everyone.

“So what are you gonna do?”

I looked up, trying to think of something. It hit me fast that I couldn’t afford to lose this job. The money… I needed it.

“I’ll do everything humanly possible to avoid him,” I said firmly, though I wasn’t sure Lauren actually believed me.

“We’ll see how long that lasts.”

She wasn’t wrong. I had no idea how I was supposed to stay away from his body—or his mouth—especially when it had been so damn long since I’d felt anything like that.

Thank God I’ve got plenty to do—keeps me from thinking about that last day, the one that won’t stop looping in my head.

“Isabelle!”

“Isabelle!”

Two employees called out to me at the same time.I was still getting used to the chaos.Managing people was technically new for me, and I’ll admit—I was still figuring it out.

I left my phone charging and went to help them.

When I took this job, I hadn’t imagined half the things that came with it—especially how complicated dealing with Colin’s staff would be. But, surprisingly, most of them were pretty easygoing. Well… except for the security guys, who always walked around looking like they were auditioning for a mafia movie.

It could’ve been worse, honestly. I actually liked how the rest of them treated me.

The real problem? Our boss.
