She came again, so hard she nearly snapped my cock off. As she started to come down, she gave me a wide grin, sliding her thumb along my jaw. “That was incredible. Thank you.”
I didn’t know what to say so I kissed her, hard and slow until my cock slipped from her body. I kept kissing her as I turned onto my back, taking her with me. We kissed until we fell asleep and my last thought was, what the fuck did I just do?
And more importantly, when can I do it again?
Chapter Fifteen
Chloe
Ifell asleep.
That was my first thought when I woke up. My second was that my pillow was very hard and super warm.My smile came instantly.
Pike was amazing. His lovemaking skills were out of this world, and I was pretty sure my body was already hooked on his. My mind replayed the night in snapshots, each one brought a bigger smile to my face. The way he’d gone down on me, growling as if he meant it, as if he wanted to be there and wasn’t just trying to get me wet quicker. I came hard and fast, faster than I’d ever come in my whole life. Before or after Marcus.
No! I shook that thought, all thoughts of him, from my mind. He was no longer part of my life, just a page or two of my history.Nothing else.
But Pike? He was just a page in my present. My protector and one-time lover, but he’d done a bang-up job of both so far. My body still hummed with pleasure from the delicious ache in my muscles to the beard burn on my thighs and under my breasts. My lips were still swollen from his endless kisses and even now, I wanted more.
I needed it.
Craved it.
I turned my face into his chest and inhaled deeply and just when I was about to flick my tongue over his nipple, I heard it.
A loud thump.
Was it inside or outside?
I sat up straight, eyes wide in the darkness, heart pounding so fiercely I had to slow my breathing to listen for the suspected intruder.Okay, Chloe, just listen.
I heard it again.
This time I didn’t wait, my hand reached out to Pike, giving him a firm shake. “Pike,” I whispered, leaning in close. “Wake up. Please.”
His body stilled and his hand covered mine. “Chloe.”
“I hear someone. Listen.” I held my breath and waited for the noise. This time it was the sound of boots on dry brush followed by a grunt.
He sat up straight, swung his legs over the edge of the bed and dressed quickly, all in the dark without a word. He pulled a gun from the nightstand on his side of the bed, checked it and headed to the door. He was a man ready for battle, and I was terrified.
And turned on.
Mostly, terrified. My heart raced like crazy, blood rushed through my veins so loud it muffled every other sound.
“Get Gemma to the closet and stay there. Both of you.” The steel in his voice was coated in a layer of velvet, which melted my heart just a little bit. He was gruff but not because he was mean, but because he was gruff and didn’t waste time on things he deemed unnecessary. “Now!” he barked.
I nodded, quickly getting to my feet. “Yep, on it. Be careful.” I found my pajamas in the dark and slipped them on, including sneakers, and followed him out of the cozy warmth of the bedroom. The chill in the hall was a stark contrast to the bedroom, in part because Pike and I went our separate ways and the distance terrified me.
Don’t think about it,I told myself when I stepped inside Gemma’s room, finding my little girl curled up under a heavy comforter with Mandi tucked close to her chest. I paused, listening to the barely there footfalls on the steps.
I ignored that pang of longing in my chest and scooped Gemma in my arms, carrying her as quickly and as quietly as I could to Pike’s room and into his closet where I deposited her on the pile of blankets on the floor. Watching Gemma like that, so peaceful and blissfully unaware of the turmoil inside me and the danger below, I knew I had to be stronger. For her.
For myself.
I blinked slowly and that’s when I heard it. The click of a gun. An agonized grunt and the sound of boots connecting with flesh.Pike.His name and his rare smile instantly popped to mind. He’d helped me a lot even though we hadn’t been here very long and I couldn’t let him do this, put himself in danger for us. I couldn’t—I wouldn’t—let him stand between me and danger the way Ashley had.
Stepping back from the closet, I closed the door and looked around the room for anything I could use as a weapon. There was a lamp but nothing else, so I left the room, closing the door behind me. I crept quietly down the stairs where the gravity of the situation settled deep in my gut.
