I also feel myself grinning wickedly as I nod and get out of bed. The girls and I don black clothes to appear appropriate in front of the Dark Mage while the boys obey Mattheo and lead the two captives to the doors of the reception hall where Darkvis is. As for Mattheo, he personally takes care of retrieving his brother.

Mattheo, Theodore and Arthur drop the three traitors at the Dark Mage's feet, their unconscious bodies thudding against the marble floor. Darkvis's red eyes look at the four of us, confusion shining in his eyes but his face still devoid of emotion.

“What is the meaning of this?” He hisses angrily.

Mattheo takes a step toward his father and bows to show his respect. He straightens his back and lifts his chin, his muscles tense with rage.

“We have found the traitors, Master.”

Darkvis's dangerous gaze falls on his youngest son, still unconscious at his feet, his jaw tightens. He orders us to explain ourselves, and Mattheo tells him what he and the boys discovered during their outing to Coldingham, but he doesn't mention Tom's plan to kill him.

The more my husband speaks, the angrier the Master becomes. His sharp, dirty nails are digging into the armrests of his throne, scratching the wood, his jaw is so tight I wonder how he shows no signs of pain.

He snaps his fingers, conjuring three chairs meant for the three traitors. With a flick of his wrist, they're seated and firmly tied to the wood. Another snap and they wake up, blinking rapidly in confusion. Tom realizes what's happening the fastest, his body freezing and tensing before his eyes fall on his father.

His jaw tightens, but he does his best to keep a straight face, knowing he's in no position to do or say anything. Soon enough, Payne and Clayton begin to realize where they are as well, and they begin to panic, doing their best to escape their bindings, to no avail.

“I welcomed you into my ranks with open arms, and how do you repay me? By betraying me?” Darkvis hisses viciously at Payne and Clayton, ignoring his youngest son for the moment.

The two boys begin to tremble with fear, their eyes widening in terror. The Dark Mage moves his wrist, and immediately, a black mass engulfs them, they begin to suffocate as blood flows from every opening. They try to fight the Master's spell, but his magic is far too powerful.

The boys and I remain silent as we watch them pay for their betrayal. I wish I were the one to hurt them, I know Matt would like the same, but it's our Master's job to do so.

After minutes of endlessly watching them convulse and suffocate, Darkvis grows tired and pulls two daggers from his sleeves, throwing them, each stabbing into his targets' forehead. Payne and Clayton immediately collapse into their chairs, their eyes wide and lifeless.

Then the Master turns to Mattheo and my husband remains motionless, patiently waiting for his order.

“Now, my son, do us the honor of punishing your…Brotherfor his betrayal,” he hisses while spitting out the word 'brother' with disdain, a sickening smile on his lips, his rotten teeth visible.

A devilish grin creeps across my husband's face and he steps in front of Tom, his hands balled into fists at his sides. I jump a little as he swings his fist at Tom's jaw, surprised by the sudden and especially brutal movement.

A loud crack echoes through the room, letting us know he's broken a bone. Tom groans in pain and spits blood onto the floor, his eyes never once glancing at Mattheo, just staring at the marble floor.

The Dark Mage smirks and watches in amusement as his eldest son and heir delivers another punch to his younger son's face, and then another, until Mattheo punches him without pausing.

The sound of bones cracking and breaking is the only sound echoing in the room as we all remain silent, watching my husband vent his rage on his little brother. I can't help but feel a sense of satisfaction every time Matt hits him, knowing he's getting revenge for the loss of our baby.

Once Mattheo's knuckles are completely split and covered in both of their blood, he steps back and retrieves one of the daggers from the other two's foreheads, his eyes still burning with hatred as he points the blade at his younger brother's face.

Tom lazily turns his head in my direction, moaning in pain, but he doesn't dare speak. Guilt shines in his eyes, guilt at being the reason I was tortured. But he still doesn't know that he's the reason I lost our child, and I want him to know that because I want him to feel our pain.

‘Tell him, darling,’I say in my husband's mind.

His dark eyes soften as they rest on mine, and he gives me a brief nod before focusing back on his traitorous brother. His lips don't move, but from the way Tom's face falls and pales, I know he told him telepathically. His blue eyes close, and he lowers his head, waiting for Mattheo to continue torturing him.

My husband doesn't hesitate as he plunges the blood-soaked dagger into his brother's right eye, enough to seriously injure him but not enough to kill him. He wants him to suffer, torturing him and letting him live with his guilt is the worst thing he can do to him.

Tom doesn't cry out in pain like Payne and Clayton, but his body begins to tremble. Blood flows freely as Mattheo pulls the dagger out, the blue eyeball impaled on the blade and leaving a gaping, bloody hole in Tom's face.

Darkvis applauds, visibly delighted to see his heir carry out his revenge, and he encourages his eldest son to kill him, but Mattheo refuses.

“I think he's learned his lesson,” he says harshly. “He might still be useful.”

His father thinks about it for a minute before nodding curtly, disappointed. Mattheo's eyes meet mine for a brief moment, then turns to his father.

“Can we retire, Master? I'll take care of him.”

“Yes, yes, get him out of my sight,” he hisses menacingly, waving his hand disdainfully.
