“Gaelan is fine; he is currently sleeping.” I turn my head back to them all and then slowly stand. “I called you all here because I wanted to talk to you about some changes that are going to be happening, and I need you all to listen to me very carefully,” I say with authority.

I walk around the front of the desk and lean against it. “When Leah brought me back to the castle after Gaelan was taken, you all decided to shut me out of whatever rescue mission you were going to try and pull.” I give them all a pointed look. “Gaelan is my mate, and if there is ever a next time, I’m to be involved.” My voice is stern, but I don’t care anymore. The state that Gaelan came back in was dire; if I had to wait for them to get him, hell only knows what could have happened.

Leah stands up and bows her head. “My Lady, we were only acting on what his Lord had told us.” Her voice is soft.

“I know, and when he wakes up, I will be having the same conversation with him. I am The Book Reader. I am still learning my powers, yes, but I am more powerful than you will ever know. Don’t shut me out again.” My last word comes out with so much fury that it burns my mouth. They all gasp at the effects of that, as the gold fire with my demand burns in my eyes.

Mark stands up and grins at me. “My Lady, we will not keep you out; you have our word,” he bows a little, followed by Leah. The others that have been called into the room, all of them still look like they don’t believe me, but when Gaelan wakes, I will get him to reiterate this for me.

I am done being the weak witch. I know Gaelan will always try to protect me and keep me safe. But I rescued him this time, and I am also about to stop both of our worries. I look at each of them before I shimmer to the front door of the Palace in Evilie.

Lifting my hands,I use my wind powers to push the door open, breaking it off its hinges. Not caring who hears me, both Lexus and I are beyond angry that Macy thinks she can touch what is mine.

Stepping into the main hall, I can hear footsteps running toward me just as a few daemons shimmer in with weapons drawn, I smile at each of them before I reach for my dagger and throw it through the air, its moves at lightning speed, zigzagging, aiming for the first daemon, stabbing into his chest, piercing the heart before it flies out of his back and hits the next one the same. I watch it hit each daemon, slicing into their bodies until they all turn to a pile of dust on the floor.

“Well, this is an interesting turn of events,” a sickly-sweet voice says. I turn and see two ladies on the steps; one has bright orange hair, and the other has grey hair. Both are dressed as if they are off to a ball. They are stunning, but the look in their eyes suggests they are just as evil and unhinged as Macy.

I turn to face them fully. “Where is Macy?” I ask them, my voice firm and strong..

“She is” the one with grey hair, looks around her as if she is bored. “Somewhere, she sent us to clear out the trash,” they both burst into fits of giggles.

“How is Gaelan? I heard she only had to give him a little dust before he was fucking her again,” the orange-haired lady says, coming further down the steps. “Macy told me he ate her pussy like a starving daemon. I can see why if he has to lie with you.”

I just smile at both. They can spit their nasty words at me all they want. I know Gaelan, and I know that he would have fought with everything he had not to have sex with Macy. I think that’s why he was in the state he was in.

“Did Macy tell you who I am?” I ask both, smiling.

“She told us the Book Reader is back, but we have killed you many times, so this doesn’t worry us one bit,” the grey-haired one says as she lifts her hands and lightning sparks along her fingers. “Plus, we have some extra friends to help us out today,” she says, looking up, and I follow her gaze. The ceiling is full of Reapers, all floating like black clouds of death. I can hear their light whispers asking me for their king again. I wish I knew who that was. I worry they are looking for the devil himself, but he is dead.

“Let them come,” I say, and I can feel the burn of my marking flash over my skin; I can see the ones on my hands glowing, ready for whatever these two are going to throw at me.

“Jade, let her have it,” the grey-haired one says to the one with orange hair.

Jade lifts her hand and points to me. “Do as commanded, kill her.”

In seconds, the Reapers all fall from above and circle me in their black smoke and cloaks. I can see red eyes flashing in front of me and feel this unbelievable amount of evil, suffocating me. I feel like all my worst nightmares could come true at anymoment. If I didn’t know that they would never hurt me, I would have been so scared; I’m sure my heart would have stopped.

“Mist? What the fuck are they doing?” Jade calls out in rage. I smile, then lift my hands and whisper, “Tenebrae mecum, tenebrae, ego te regam.”

Darkness with me, darkness, I rule you.

The Reapers’ blood-curdling scream penetrates the air; they lift higher and move behind me, like a pitch-black wall of evil. Their eyes were trained on the two daemons in front of me.

“They are not yours to command,” I smirk at them both.

“They belong to us,” Mist hisses at me.

“Not anymore,” I say as my hands fist, then open. I lift them and send flames to erupt around the two of them, enclosing them in a furnace of heat. I’m not going to tell them that the Reapers don’t belong to me either; that’s something I still need to find out myself. I can see the fear in both of their faces, and it makes me laugh lightly. “Anything else you want to test me with?” I ask them, matching their evil tone. “Or can I kill you both now?” I pull my hands back, making the flames move so close to them that they both shimmer out of the circle.

They narrow their eyes at me and then both come charging down the stairs. Jade throws flames that match mine at me first. It just runs over my body and settles in my fists to join my fire.

Mist growls low, hitting me with lightning that has me stepping back from the sting of it. Lightning isn’t one of my powers, but it can be. I straighten and throw my hand out and yell, “Potestates eius, confice mihi, fiat mihi fiat.”

Powers of hers, settle to me, be me mote it be.

Mist bows over in pain. This is the first time I've used the power-absorbing spell. My arms start to shake from the force of it as a trail of lightning, so bright, leaves Mist’s body, floats up into the air, and hits me, surrounding me with a bright white glow. My back arches, and I can feel a shift in my body. Panting for breath, the lightning settles to only little sparks bursting over my skin. I turn to Mist, and all the light has gone from her eyes; her hair is now a dark brown, and she looks normal. Jade rushes to her side, and she pulls her into her arms.

“What the fuck was that?” She asks her.
