She cleared the back of the goblin’s hand and got the needle in.The fluids started, and the drive was nice and smooth.

Saretha’s mother asked, “Is this the fifty-one?”

“Yes, Ma’am.”

“Oh.You are pregnant?”

“Oh, geez.Dem-rah gave folks a lecture, did he?I wondered why it was like walking through a statue garden.”She answered.“Yes, I am.”

“Do you know what you are having?”

“A baby.”She grinned.

The woman smiled.“You don’t want to know?”

“Oh, sure, I do, but blood of a dark fae child is still used as an ingredient in dark magic, so it is not for the public to know. The father will light things up pink and blue the moment that he knows what it is.At that point, he has to keep us safe; for now, it is my job alone.”

Demuel stared and immediately started typing on his phone. His eyes bugged out, and he sent a message on his phone.Solor was probably having a very educational shift.

They pulled up at the hospital, and Skip glided them in.Broken bones were not fun.

Saretha’s mother said, “Why did that take so long?”

“Skip went down roads in the best repair to avoid jolting.”

“Oh.Wow.I didn’t know you could do that.”

“She’s going to be in rough enough shape without shaking her the whole way.”

“Goblins have thin bones.”The mother said softly.

Nylora nodded.“We know.”

She got out, and Demuel came around to help her lower the wheels and ease the gurney out.Skip checked the patient in, and her mother was at her side.Nylora got back to the computer, detailed the equipment and medication used, and the fact that they had to get a new gurney. She watched as Skip snagged one from the hospital, waving the acquisition slip as he went.He and Demuel loaded it up, and it was time for their official first break.Dem-rah’s it was.

When they got there, Demuel paused.“Are you sure you don’t want anything?”

“Oh, I want it.Can’t have it yet.”She met his gaze and realized what she said.“Shit.I mean the tacos.”

He grinned and nodded.

She dug out her sandwiches and had her passenger seat picnic. She was chewing like a squirrel when her door opened.Demuel held out a container for her.“Non-spicy lemonade. He insisted on making it while I watched.”

She swallowed.“Did he put sugar in it?”

“Simple syrup.”He smiled.

She took a sip and smiled.“It’s really good.”

“Good. He feels horrible that you are the only one who doesn’t get a hot meal when you need it.”

“It’s fine.I know what his specialty is, and I don’t discourage anyone else just because I can’t enjoy it right now.”

Dem-rah walked up and held out a container.“Here.Pregnant fae special.Chicken quesadilla with only flavour, no heat.”

She took the container.“I...”

“If you can’t tolerate it, I will think of something else, but this was all I could manage since I heard about my granddaughter.”
