"I believe the highest number of mates a female has had in our history has been six. I do not have a current account of the number of mates someone has since I am no longer within a pack . While in the walls of this school, I am not connected to the outside packs. I'm sure your father would be a better person to answer that question."

My father would kill me once he realized I was here, so my father wasn't the person to ask this question. If my father knew I was trying to restore the bond with Dylan, a Shadowborn, he would not only kill me, but wage war on Dylan's pack.

"I’d rather not ask him."

Lupe looked over her shoulder at me with a questioning look. "Is he not happy you are here?"

"I'm the future alpha of our pack; of course not. He wants me home to learn everything about the duties I will be taking over once I am mated."

"Your mate is here. Surely, he understands you must complete your reform studies here before you can complete the mating ceremony."

I laughed. "He was preparing for me to mate with another."

"Hmm." Lupe said nothing else and continued to show me around the school.

It didn't take long for me to see the classes and meet the teachers. Classes were not in session at the moment, so I was introduced to the teachers one by one. Lupe pulled Wilcox aside to tell her about Dylan's demand. I waited for the female to tell Lupe she wouldn't take the job, considering Lupe mentioned she was not the best for the job right now. Wilcox smiled and happily agreed to complete a mentorship with me, and mentioned it would be good for me and Dylan to have a class together to work through some of the issues. Lupe thought it was a great idea, but I wasn't so sure. Dylan didn't seem to evenwant me at this school with the way she looked at me, let alone a one-on-one class talking about our issues.

"I'm not sure if Dylan would want that."

Lupe smirked at me. "There are some things Dylan does not get a say in when it comes to the classes here. She may have asked for you to learn from Miss. Wilcox here, but it is not a terrible idea for you two to work things out without the eyes of her peers or her other mates."

I scoffed. "You mean because her mates will attempt to kill me for hurting her emotionally?"

Wilcox smiled. The woman knew I spoke the truth, which did not give me a good feeling about being around these guys. "They are doing what mates should for their females. They may want to challenge you because you broke her heart, but that does not mean we will allow it to happen here."

Something in Lupe's eyes told me she may allow that to happen. I opened my mouth to ask, but she cut me off so she could finish my tour. I bid my goodbye to my new teacher and followed after her. The rest of the tour was uneventful. She showed me the library, cafeteria, and gave me a map to use as we walked toward the dorm. I noticed Dylan laughing with two guys and a red-headed female just outside of the circle. Dylan straightened herself for a moment and then looked my way. The severed bond between us sizzled with seeing her, and I knew she had been alerted to my presence. She glared my way and pulled her mates inside as they also glared my way. The red-head at least gave me a sympathetic look before disappearing into the building after them.

Yep. Those two are going to challenge me during combat class. I know it. Fuck me... one of her mates is the person I hired to kill her.

I looked up at the sky and hoped the Goddess was listening. Was that to spite me and teach me a lesson?

Obviously, she didn't answer. She may have told me how I needed to fix the bond between us, but that was the length of help she planned to give me. Lupe must have also noticed the glaring as she spoke, drawing me from my thoughts.

"Combat class will be interesting judging by the way they just looked at you."

Wonderful. Even she knows what will happen in that class.

"So they can challenge me?"

"To yield or knockout, not death. You do not need to fear they might kill you."

I growled at her. "That doesn't exude much confidence. They can challenge me out of vendetta."

Lupe opened the door to the building for me. "My mate teaches the class, Mr. Lynch. I will remind my mate that someone should not be able to challenge another who is new at the school."

I walked in but stopped a few feet in so Lupe could continue to lead me around. "So you are going to delay them handing me my ass. Got it."

She chuckled, and the noise now became like nails on a chalkboard to me. She shouldn't be laughing at this. These men could kill me at any time, not just on the mat. It's not like I saw guards every hundred feet or so to keep us all in line.

"I assure you that will not happen. There are rules in place, and neither of the men mated to Dylan would cross them. We have a handle on everyone in the school, Mr. Lynch."

Sure. She thinks nothing will happen, but I know men of my species. They will wait until we have a full moon run, and she won't be looking as closely at them and then they will pounce. Fuck, the one is a contract killer. He knows more ways to kill me and how to cover it up than anyone else in here.

I kept all comments to myself. I knew Lupe would be a teacher who thought things won't go wrong because peoplewould listen to her. Unfortunately, there were more people out there that didn't listen to elders than who did. We climbed up a few stories of stairs before we went through a door to my floor. I looked down to remember just how many flights I walked up before I got to mine and then followed Lupe. She stood in front of a door and then stepped aside. While outstretching her arm, she told me the rest of the information I needed to know.

"Your key and class schedule. Classes resume on Monday. I'm sure classmates will have no problem showing you around if you have any further questions. There is a local town with some stores to shop as well as some places to have some fun. If you have any questions for me, there is a phone in your room with a directory. It also has a list of everyone's rooms so you can contact Miss. Pierce as well."

"I doubt she wants to talk to me on the phone right now."
