Vance dipped his head so I could read the truth in his sincere, hypnotically beautiful eyes. “Listen, Yara, you’re going to the full-moon ritual anyway, and you need the three of us to come along to put out the dragon fire inside of you, as only the harem can do for their queen.”

Fair point. Queen or not, I was going. The three of them had given me no reason not to trust them. Even at their house, they hadn’t tried to hurt me even though I’d stolen from them. They’d protected me from the other dragons and had saved me from passing out due to the overflow of sexual hormones from the dragon fire. Besides, I’d already trusted Tavis between my legs, so it was a little late to turn back now.

With them by my side, three powerful dragon shifters, my chances of rescuing Asa topped the chart of real possibilities. Before, when it had been only me, it had bottomed out next to zero.

Besides, I wanted to live, and at least according to them, the only way not to die from dragon fire was to have sex with each of them.

I leveled my gaze at the three shifters standing in my dumpster of a living room like some brutal reminder that they didn’t fit into my life. Unless I made room for them. With the heat beginning to stir once again in my lower belly, I didn’t have much of a choice on a physical level. But it was possible it went deeper than that. They were likable, and I didn’t like anyone. Except Asa.

“Okay,” I agreed. “Let’s go kick a little dragon ass, shall we?”

 Chapter Five

There were no availableflights to Evenza that would make it there in time, and the three dragon shifters weren’t keen on the idea of me riding on their backs, especially since they didn’t want to be seen out in the open and vulnerable to attack. Their SUV was our fastest bet.

Fine by me since I’d never ridden a dragon. Not like that anyway. Hi, my name is Yara, and I can’tnotmake sexual jokes when it’s all I can think about.

I shifted in the middle row of seats in the SUV, grinding my thighs together, as I tried to focus on the changing scenery outside the window. Mission Hill and the sprawling suburbs surrounding it had faded away to quiet and stillness. The sun sat low in the sky, beaming its final rays on the small farmhouses nestled underneath canopies of trees. I would’ve declared it a beautiful evening if it weren’t for the ritual in less than five hours. That soured everything, including the small amount of fast food I’d forced myself to eat about an hour ago, shifters’ treat.

Calhoun sat next to me, quietly staring out the window with his elbow propped on the armrest. Tavis sat in the passenger seat while Vance drove, and the two of them argued off and on about which radio station to listen to, the temperature in the car, and whether life existed on other planets. You know, the usual for dragon shifter brothers, I supposed.

It surprised me how...normal the three of them were. Not barbaric at all in the sense that they didn’t kidnap children off the street. A good sign, obviously. Calhoun always looked like he was up to something in that crafty, dark way of his, especially in his all-black attire. Tavis was the super chill one, equally comfortable with silence and cracking jokes. Vance seemed to be the leader, the older brother, who made sure everyone had what they needed at any given time, including a wealth of knowledge. They piqued my curiosity meter, that was for sure, and not just because they were hot.

Throughout the ride, their gazes ticked over to me, not constantly, but every once in a while. Feeling their eyes track over my body in a sensual caress hardened my bones into a stiff, trembling column of need. Was I supposed to climb on top of one of them whenever I wanted, or was there a protocol with a warning and an escape hatch in case they realized they didn’t want anything to do with me? I was just a human thief and probably just average in the sack since I’d had sex only two times before Tavis, both of which had been instantly forgettable.

And I thought I was clueless when it came to males of my own species. Ha!

Vance turned the knob on the radio to a different song, one I’d never heard before. Its bass beat thumped through the floor in a slow, seductive rhythm, vibrating the tension inside of me with an electric touch.

“Is this... What is this?” I asked, my breath coming in short.

He met my gaze in the rearview mirror, his pale eyes blazing with lust. One of his hands slipped from the wheel and disappeared between his legs. The muscles in his broad shoulders bunched and flexed, and I could just imagine him stroking himself through his jeans.

“It’s a mating song,” he said, his voice rough.

Of course it was. How had I not noticed how fucking sexy everything to do with dragon shifters was before now?
