As soon as we walked into this building in the middle of nowhere, Shannon’s screams reached my ears. I looked at Eros, and for a minute panic surged through me. He just shrugged. “She’s been screaming like a fucking banshee since we took her. We haven’t done anything to her yet.”

It was a shock to hear her screams and demands to be let go because of who she and my father were, like no one knew. “I only expected to have to deal with my father.”

“Pop…everybody, give us a few minutes, then we’ll be in.”

Axe nodded, then walked toward a door at the back of the building. The rest of his men, as well as some of the men from Savage Order followed. I didn’t understand why so many people came, but I was sure Eros knew what he was doing. So, I wouldn’t question it.

When they disappeared inside the room, Eros wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me into his frame. “You’re only going to deal with your father. I’m handling her. And before you say anything, one death is all you need on your conscience, sweetheart. I’ll bear the burden of the other.”

Even though I hadn’t even thought about how Shannon played into all this, what could I say to that? He wanted to protect me from what I’d have to deal with after. Since I’d made the decision to be the one to take my father’s life, I wavered on the decision. I’d never hurt anyone in my life. But shouldn’t I be the one who gave my mother some type of justice? Shouldn’t I be the one to get some type of justice for me and my brother? While he didn’t get his hands dirty, our father green-lit my death, and also my mother’s. He took away the most important person in my life from me. The woman who loved me unconditionally. All for what? A younger bitch he used to treat like a daughter and for power.

How could I not get the justice we all deserved?

My father’s curses echoed through the door, and nervousness moved through me.

Why the hell am I nervous?

“Offer still stands,” Eros said. “I can handle this. You can even stay in the room if you want, but you don’t need to deal the final blow. Let me take that burden for you.”

“I can’t ask that of you, Niko.”

“He’s your father, Janea. While he may not be the man who raised you anymore, you love him. And you don’t have to ask, I’m offering.”

A tear slipped down my cheek followed by another as realization set in. Eros was right. I was so damn angry at all the shit my father had done, but deep down I was still that same little girl who thought her father hung the moon. I loved the man he was before he became this person.

“It’s okay.” He kissed me on top of my head after he pulled me into his arms. “I’ll handle it.”

While I thought I was strong enough to do it, I didn’t believe I could.

I nodded. “Okay,” I said, the sound muffled against his chest. “I’ll let you handle it, but I want to talk to him first.”

“Okay. You got this, and don’t let him get under your skin.”

I released my breath, nodding. “Alright. I love you, Niko.”

A huge smile crossed his face. “I love you, too, sweetheart.” He squeezed me tightly before letting me go. “Let’s get this over with.”

We walked to the door. Broken glass and the crunch of dead leaves sounded under our feet. When we reached the door, Eros didn’t waste any time and pushed it open, and I was grateful. Any more time to think about what was happening might cause me to chicken out and not confront my father.

Immediately when I stepped inside the room, it went silent. Both my father and Shannon looked at me, their eyes wide as saucers. They were both tied to chairs with their backs against each other so they couldn’t look directly at one another.

“Janea, honey. What are you doing here? You have to help me,” he begged.

Immediately, tears filled my eyes again. “How could you?” I asked. “How could you try to kill me?”

He shook his head. “I don’t know where you’re getting your information from Janea. But I’m your goddamn father. I wouldn’t do that!”

“I don’t believe you!” I inhaled and blew out a breath, trying to calm down. “You tried to have me killed. You killed Mom!”

“You’ve lost your damn mind,” he said, continuing to deny everything. “I expected better of the daughter I raised.”

He looked at me with disappointment. If I didn’t know for a fact he had done these things, I might have fallen for his disappointed father act. But he tried to kill me. I’d seen the proof. Eros had killed the woman who had been hired by him. And I believed Shannon when she said he knew about my mother’s death.

“You pulled the wool over all our eyes. What the hell happened to you?” I asked when I got my emotions under control. “The man who raised me wouldn’t have done any of this.”

“What happened to me?” he asked, a dark chuckle escaping him. “Says the daughter I raised to have some values, not to stoop to fucking a criminal.”

His disgust hit me square in the chest, but I had to remember the man in front of me wasn’t my father. That man died a long time ago even if I didn’t even know when it happened.
