She clearly didn’t want to return to Rose Meadow, a small town just outside of Santa Monica, and wants to piss off her daddy by shacking up with a brother.
I watch as Ivy discreetly looks in the direction of where Mama is sitting before opening the door, and that does it. I hear Viper mutter, “Fuck,” as I storm after my sister with anger.
I’ve told her she’s not seeing the girl anymore, and it’s time she fucking listened.
I rush out of the club to see Ivy about to climb into an Uber, and I snap, “You are not old enough for an Uber!”
She finches, then her shoulders drop as she puts a finger up to the woman behind the wheel, who nods, then she turns to look at me with a defiant look on her face, while a presence behind me makes me aware we’re not alone.
“I’m going to the library with some friends to study for a math quiz in two days, Cale, so why don’t you go back inside and mind your own business?” she snaps, clearly fed up that I’m monitoring her every move, and I narrow my eyes.
I can see some truth in her eyes, and I also know she won’t come to me for help with school because she wants to prove a point to the club.
“Is Raya going to be one of those friends?” I demand to know as I cross my arms over my chest, and this time she narrows her green eyes, and I know she is, which pisses me off, and I growl, “I told you, you aren’t allowed to be friends with her anymore, Ivy! She’s using you!”
Ivy scoffs, “You know what? You’re a hypocrite,” and I raise a brow as a snort echoes behind me, one I know well.
Now, why isn’t Dad demanding she come back inside?
“You’ve literally just tag-teamed a woman with Viper. One who is adamant to get a patched brother, yet you seem to think just because Raya doesn’t make eye contact with you, she’s one of them?! You are pathetic, Cale. You barely even know her! You look at all the women here and think ‘you know what, she’s rich, she has to be a bitch and wants to piss off her daddy’ when the only person I see as being a bitch in this whole scenario is not my friend who has stood by me for the past ten years, but you!”
Did she just call me a bitch?
I chuckle, “You so fucking naïve. If she were a good friend, why did she go no contact for three months, huh?”
Ivy’s jaw ticks before she growls, “You know whatVenom, for someone so smart, you’re also really dumb and I hate you sometimes for being so blind!” before she turns and climbs into the Uber, throwing her bag on the seat next to her. My jaw ticks as I go to follow her, pissed at her words and how they’ve fucking knocked me for six but a hand grips my shoulder before Dad states, “Leave her son,” and I turn and glare at him while Mama frowns watching the car in the distance.
“What do you mean, leave her? Raya is using her, Dad!” I snap, but he shrugs.
“They are friends, have been for years, and it is time for you to let the whole she’s a patch chaser shit go before you lose your sister,” Dad says calmly, and my jaw ticks as Mama gasps, “Bret, you can’t mean that?”
Dad shakes his head at us both and mumbles, “Ivy is right, you’re being blinded just like I was by the women that come in and out of those doors,” before he turns and walks back inside, and I growl as I turn and punch the wall hard. I’ll admit that was a really, really fucking bad move as a crack echoes and Mama gasps, “Cale!”
Shooting pain ripples up my arm, and I quickly shake out my hand cursing just as Psycho and Fury rush out.
Guess Dad knew I’d do something stupid like break my fucking hand. Dammit!
“Fuck’s sake,” Fury sighs as he takes my hand and looks over it while shaking his head, muttering, “Yeah, you’ve definitely broken it,” and Mama groans.
Fury, not wanting to admit it, had taken a few medical courses in preparation for times like this while Cain is away after joining the Army who would be the one to patch us up, unless a hospital is required, like now.
Fuck my life.
“Come on, fucker,” Psycho says as he shakes his head, and Mama mutters, “I swear this is all that girl's fault,” and I hum in agreement as I follow Psycho with Fury next to me.
If it is the last thing I do, I’ll make Raya’s life so bad, she’ll be begging my sister never to contact her again. As far as I’m concerned, she’s a little fucking pest that needs squashing.
Shame I don’t realize, I’ll soon be eating my words.
Chapter 2
Raya
I chew on my bottom lip as I look up at the orange-tinted sky, with the light breeze blowing through my hair, the birds chirping echoing in the quiet cemetery.
To most people, they’d love this kind of evening, relish in it after a hard day at work. I, well, I’m waiting for the darkness to take hold, to swallow me so I won’t be noticeable for what I need to do that will most likely upset my mama and make her disappointed in me.
“Mama met someone, Daddy,” I whisper as I finally look down at the headstone, my eyes taking in the writing.
