“So, you looked into this place?” Chris asked.

“Yes, and I think I’d like to go there. Mouse called and they have a few openings right now, so they could take me. They also will help me with the baby. They have two pediatric nurses that are fully trained, or something. And everyone helps out there. Like with the cooking and the chores. Oh, and they have goats.” Her eyes lit up with excitement about the goats.

I remembered when we were younger, back when I was around, Ingram always loved to go and pet the goats. She’d sneak them food that she stuffed in her pocket at breakfast.

I was torn, honestly. I didn’t want her to leave. Hell, I didn’t know where this farm was anyway. I hated that I felt blindsided by this and that it seemed like Ingram had already made up her mind.

Kill Mouse.

Yep, that was what I was going to do. Strangle his fucking neck for putting this idea in her head. I didn’t want to let her go. And I sure as fuck didn’t want strangers raising her and my nephew. I knew she was seventeen, but she still had a lot to learn, a lot of growing to do. A lot of guidance needed.

“Okay, let Ky and I look into it. That way we’ll know more about this place so that we can all sit down and talk about it. Does that sound good, Ingram?” Chris took control of the situation with a level head and I honestly couldn’t have been happier. I knew that if I opened my mouth that I wouldn’t be able to hold back my anger and frustration about this whole thing.

That was the moment my nephew decided to let out a wail that let us all know that he was awake and needing love. Ingram’s face lit up with a smile as she turned her attention in the direction of her son.

Her son.

Man, that still felt weird to think about.

Hell, saying I had a nephew did too.

She got up and made her way over to Chry. Then she picked him up and walked in the direction of her room I assumed to feed him.

Once she was out of sight, I shot to my feet.

“Ky,” Chris said in that tone that was meant to be a warning. He knew me. He knew what was going through my mind.

“I’ll be back, Chris. Don’t even try to get me to stand down right now.”

I quickly kissed the side of his head then left the house. I hopped on my bike and headed in the direction of the compound with one thing on my mind.
