CHAPTER TWENTY

“How did it go?” I asked Ingram the moment I answered the phone.

She’d had a doctors appointment and I knew that Cami and Laurel had gone with her. I was glad that she was making friends and had people she could talk to, especially girls. She needed that. I sure as hell couldn’t show her the way of all that feminine shit. Though I offered to go with her to all her appointments, she always made it seem like it would have been weird if I went. So, I let her handle it the way that made her the most comfortable and only requested that she call me after.

“Everything looks good,” she said and I could hear a smile in her voice. “So, big brother, after my talk with Chris yesterday I think it might be time to get some things…for the baby and all.”

 “Yeah,” I grunted out.

I wasn’t irritated at her. Or even Chris. I was honestly thankful that he’d stepped in and handled the shit that I obviously couldn’t. I didn’t know why I couldn’t get over this weird little hump with her. I wasn’t one for talking and I didn’t know a thing about babies. So mix those two things together in a conversation and I had no idea where to even begin.

“That sounds like a good idea. Use that card I gave you.” I didn’t know why I felt the need to tell her that every time.

“Okay, thank you. But there is a small problem,” I could hear the hesitation in her tone.

 “What?”

“Cami has to go to work and well, Laurel doesn’t have a car. I know Chris is at work or I’d ask him if he could take us, so I’m not really sure what to do? Do you think it would be too much if we asked Chris to borrow his car? I don’t want him to feel like he has to and all.”

“No, you’re not taking that old thing. See if Cami can drop you by the compound. I’ll get someone to drive you around in one of the SUVs, it’ll have more room to put stuff too. I think B-ry isn’t doing anything right now.”

Her voice got softer and I could tell she was talking to them about it.

“Laurel says not B-ry. Oh!” Her voice drifted far away again. “How was I to know that you didn’t want me to say that.”

 “Ingram?”

“Yes, sorry. I mean, maybe someone else?”

I chuckled because I’d clearly heard the whole thing and her cover-up was horrible.

“I’ll figure it out. See you when you get here.”

She said bye and then hung up. I stood there scratching my head on who I could get to take them. Sure there were prospects, but did I really trust them to drive around my pregnant baby sister? Not really.

I walked back to the clubhouse. B-ry was sitting on the couch right in the same spot I’d seen him hours ago. It would have made my life easier if I could have just asked him because it was clear he didn’t have anything going on.

“Hey,” I said as I approached him. “Who else is around?”

“Um, Cable’s in his room. I think Iron, Mason, and Knight are at the container yard.”

“Hey,” Mouse said as he walked into the room with a cup of coffee.

I sent him a chin lift in greeting.

“Mouse is here,” B-ry pointed out like an idiot.

I laughed and shoved his buzzed head.

“I see that, jackass,” I said and shook my head.

“Why? What’s up?” B-ry asked looking up at me.

“Laurel and Ingram want to go shopping for baby shit but they don’t have a car to do it.”

“Oh,” B-ry said as his eyes dropped and if I wasn’t mistaken, his posture sagged. “Mouse will do it.”
