‘First of all, I didn’t force you into it. And second, you’re miles away from any of those girls. You are mygirlfriend. You’re the only one that I kiss, the only one that I fuck, and the only one that I protect. So you tell me where does that leave us?’

Though he didn’t wait for an answer. Not that I had one. He just stormed out the door and never returned, abandoning me with the question.

 Where does that leave us?

 Chapter 18

Cole didn’t return until themorningand I hadn’t slept until themorning.Judging by the dark circles under his eyes by the time he decided to come back to the room, neither had he.

‘Did you pack?’ He asked, looking around the room.

 ‘Not everything, but most things.’

‘Good. I’ll get my stuff and we’ll be leaving.’ He was beyond pissed off. He was calmly pissed off and that was worrying me. Especially the part where he didn’t deviate from his plan. Just packed his things, took both of our bags, and we were off.

‘Did you sleep?’ I asked him, knowing that he needed to drive for a few hours.

 ‘I’ll stop for coffee.’

Not that Cole was the most communicating person on earth, but his answers came as short as they got. We did stop for coffee, but no other words were wasted between us. He just gave me a cup and we continued on our journey. That until I just had to say something because the silence was getting ridiculous.

‘I was thinking I would be the one who goes into the governor’s house.’ At least I didn’t keep my eyes open all night for nothing. I was going to be the one who’d try and get something on him. It was my idea after all.

 ‘Ok.’

‘We’ll just need to talk to Ferris when we return and see if he can help.’

 ‘Ok.’

He was getting on my nerves, ‘Isokeverything you have to say?’

‘Pretty much. I did my part.’

‘What exactly does that mean? You’re not going to help us further?’

‘I’ll help you, don’t worry. It’s just that I want to end the deal.’

 ‘End it?’

‘Yes.Usor whatever. Let’s just say I’ve grown out of it.It’s not you. It’s mekinda crap.’ He seemed dead serious.

 ‘And what about the Academy?’

‘You can still keep your title. I don’t fucking care. So, take out your glass and celebrate.’

 ‘Cole-.’

 ‘Drop it.’

I wasn’t sure what I was going to say anyway. He was right. I should take my glass out and celebrate. The only problem was, I didn’t feel like celebrating at all.

Cole kept his eyes on the road the whole time while every sign on his face was showing it was over. It was really over! I finally got rid of one of my kings and still kept him to assist us when needed.

 That was a good thing.

 Wasn’t it?

I called Brax and Ferris on the way to Echo so we could meet. I had a plan that needed to be urgently put into practice, but the moment Cole parked his car in front of Ferris’s mansion, I realized he wasn’t coming in.
