‘It’s nothing. I’m just expecting the babysitter to come.’

‘What babysitter? And where do you think you’re going?’

‘A. The babysitter that man yourobbedearlier hired. And B: It’s none of your business.’

‘Of course, it’s my business. I’m responsible for you,’

Nat made me laugh to the point I could barely control myself ‘I thought it was the other way around, sis,’ I spoke between giggles.

Still, what I thought of as a joke was a cruel version of one’s reality ‘After you left, I felt a responsibility for everyone, not only for Sebastian. I thought of you every single moment. I wondered how you are, if you’re warm if you had anything to eat. I used to stay awake at night wondering if you’d ever return for us.’

‘Oh, Nat. How could you question that I wouldn’t return for the two of you? I’m so sorry that you had to go through all of that. Just promise me that you’ll keep an eye on your brother and I’ll figure the rest out. You don’t have to worry about me. I always land on my feet.’

‘I can see that, looking around me,’ this time, the giggle came from her as she laid her head on the pillow, gazing at the fine silk wallpaper that decorated the room. ‘Is he your boyfriend?’

 ‘Who?’

‘The rich guy with the presents. The one with thedead eyes. Who else!?’

‘What’s with you and everyone’s eyes?’

‘They show a person for who they really are.’

‘When did you get so mature?’ I let my arms fall all around her, pulling her body against my own, without really expecting an answer.

Our sisterly moment didn’t last long, since the doorbell made me tear myself away from the embrace so I could welcome my replacement for the night.

 The babysitter was here.

Wow, Ferris spent no money on this one. Just by looking at her tidied and controlled posture, I could tell she must have a wall full of Ph.D.’s and child psychology degrees back home.

Good luck with Lucifer’s offspring. And from the way my sister looked at her, she was going to need it.

It was beginning to get dark outside, and that meant I had somewhere to be, without any idea of what I was walking into.

 Romantic dinner.

 An answer to today’s question.

Or even maybe a cancelation of our agreement.

I guessed I would find out soon enough since after pulling on a tight V-cleavage dress and a pair of heels, I took the road that led straight to Ferris’s bedroom.

‘Can I come in?’ I asked, waiting in front of his door after I already knocked a few times without receiving an answer.

It didn’t take long before the door opened to reveal another of Ferris’s chameleon masks

‘Now you’re knocking. When did we get from almost ripping each other’s clothes to knocking!?’

There was something off with him, again. He was hiding a sadness mixed with an anger that scared me.

‘I thought it was the polite thing to do,’ I spoke as my gaze fell to the floor.

‘Yeah… polite...,’ the corner of his lips curved into a smile that sheltered no real amusement. ‘But don’t just stand there. Come in. It would beimpoliteof me to keep you in the doorway would it not?’

‘Ferris, are you ok!?’ He was acting much stranger than before and that was scaring the life out of me.

‘Yes, why? Don’t I seem ok to you?’
