‘I’m in. Let’s meet in three days.’ It didn’t take Cole long to decide on how he wanted to act, though I had a feeling that our personal discussion on the subject would not wait that long.

Finally, it was Brax’s turn, and even though, after what he said, I suspected that it would benofrom the start on his side, his answer came as a surprise to me ‘I’ll make a decision when the time comes.’

Ferris nodded in approval, so did Cole, agreeing on giving it a chance.

It wasn’t going to be easy, I was aware of that. But it wasn’t in my nature to ever give up.

And they were also aware of that!

‘I have to go. I have to be somewhere with my father,’ Cole looked at his watch, realizing that he had stayed for too long. I guess he was expecting a quick fix from his new toy rather than a discussion.

‘I’ll walk with you,’ Brax hugged Ferris then walked towards theirsuccessor, who was waiting for him by the door, not before he made sure that his gaze stopped upon me. He was still in a slight shock that I could ever show such courage or insanity to ask them to be a part of my plan.

‘Ferris,’ my voice faded knowing that by revealing my otherdealsI had hurt him, even if the two were his friends- orespeciallysince the two were his friends.

I headed towards him, maybe in a useless attempt to mend things, though before I reached his side, he moved away from the direction I was going, and stepped towards the light of the door ‘I’ll be back in a couple of minutes.’ That’s all that he had to say as he abandoned me in the room, leaving me prey to my own devastating thoughts.

‘I brought you these for your sister and brother.’ Just as I was walking out of the dining room, Ferris returned with one of his guards, both holding numerous bags of children’s clothes and toys.

As if called by some magic bell, Nat’s bedroom doors opened and they both came out stumbling against one another, rushing to greet Ferris, or more probably his gifts.

I guess eavesdropping ran in the family genes.

‘Are these for us!?’ Seb decided to ask only after he ripped a few bags from the guard’s hands and threw them on the floor, rustling through them.

‘Ferris, these two little gold diggers are Natalie and Sebastian.’ Some introductions were in order and who better than me to make them?

My remark brought a smile on the corner of his lips ‘They’re just kids.’

‘We are not kids!’ my sister had to argue. In her opinion, she was probably even more grown-up than any other person in the room, and I couldn’t beg to differ since I knew that feeling all too well. A sensation as with the first breath of real air you manage to take, you’re left with the burden of the whole world.

Ferris also caught on to what she was thinking and used his personal charm to instantly befriend them ‘I’m sorry if I have offended you, miss,’ he put a hand under his chin as he was thinking of something deep ‘You look five or six years younger than you really are,’ he smiled, revealing his pearl-white teeth. ‘Believe me, when you’ll be a little older you’ll love anyone who’ll say that,’ he whispered, giving her the sublime hint of what to expect from a perfect gentleman.

Only I knew better, and Ferris, was miles away from that distinction, maybe even further than I ever suspected.

‘Would you stay a little longer?’ I asked him, sensing that he was searching for a way out of the apartment.

‘I...,’ he looked at my siblings unwrapping their presents, then turned his eyes to look at me ‘I can’t. I need to think things through. Besides, I wouldn’t be the greatest company. But I made plans with you for tonight.’

‘You did!?’ We hadn’t really had a chance to talk between the time Ferris arrived and Brax had been ringing the doorbell.

‘Yes. A babysitter is on her way, and I’m expecting you at my place after nightfall,’ his lips curved in a murky smile because he wasn’t asking me.

He wastellingme what I needed to do.

‘Goodbye.’ Long before I could sneak in a word, he disappeared down the corridor, assuring himself that there was no detour on my part to his plans.

Chapter 2

Tick tock...tick tock... Tick tock

I could hear each second passing as thoughts regarding Ferris’s plans for the night were running through my mind. I had a feeling that nothing could ever prepare me for what was to come.

Nat immediately sensed that something was bothering me ‘What’s wrong?’ She asked while I was changing the bandage covering the wound my father had caused her.

‘Why would anything be wrong?’

‘I can feel that something is troubling you.’
