‘You shouldn’t drink, Brax.’ I don’t know why I even spoke. I knew he wasn’t going to listen to me anyway.

On the contrary... ‘Stop acting like I’m one of your fucking charity cases.’

‘You don’t have to be a charity case for me to see that you’re not well.’

‘Maybe you could come here and fix me.’ He muttered, annoyed that I was not giving up on the subject.

‘Fuck you!’ My foul mouth could not be contained.

Brax didn’t get to react to my remark as Cole’s arm tightens around me ‘Watch your mouth, Mouse.’

Great, now I had both of them on my back. One of them being literally on my back.

‘You two are too agitated for me,’ Ferris took a seat back in his chair.

‘That’s because you didn’t have enough to drink yet,’ Cole finally let go of me, walking closer to where the guys were to get his glass from the table. ‘What now?’ he downed the contents of the glass in one sip.

‘I haven’t spent an evening with you two in ages,’ Ferris smiled, reminiscing their former get-togethers, between many other things, I was sure.

‘I’ll be leaving, then.’ I had to try my luck and get out of there.

And to my surprise, this time it worked. ‘Go and rest. That is, if you don’t want to join us for drinks.’ Ferris just gave me a way out.

A night in my own bed was a luxury I could barely afford. I wasn’t going to pass on that offer, especially since the three of them and alcohol wouldn’t be a good combination.

‘I’m tired. I’m going straight to bed. Have fun,’ I put on a fake smile and left the room before any of them got to sneak in a word.

Although Cole’s voice could be heard throughout the lobby ‘See you tomorrow, Queen B.’

Shit...what was that about!?

Chapter 10

Queen B. The intonation of Cole’s words seemed to be stuck in my mind. I was positive that he had planned something for the day that was to come, and I couldn’t help but fear hisalwaysdevious thoughts.

Sleeping an entire night in my own bed seemed surreal at that moment. It was like someone had put my torment on pause. Not a very long pause, but a well-deserved one. Everything was going on in fast forward and things were evolving so much faster than I was expecting them to. Less than a month ago, I wasn’t even sure if I could save my family, and now I had the burden of a whole city on my hands.

The thought of it was giving me an anxiety attack, but in the strangest of ways, it was also soothing me. At least there was hope to put a stop to all of it. Maybe even hope for improvement.

Despite everything, I slept like a baby. Lack of sleep and tiredness didn’t keep track of saving the world, so I needed to lock up my vigilante suit for the evening.

I wished the night could be longer, but I woke up in what felt like only ten minutes, looking at the grey sky of the morning. I must have counted to three ten times to get to the rightthreethat gave me enough courage to get out of my comfy bed, and once on my feet, the only thing that I could think about was how to get back between the warm sheets.

Defeating my morning lack ofanything, I packed up a few books and after kissing Nat and Seb goodbye, left for the Academy.

Funny how for everyone else school was usually a routine. For me, it was a new challenge each day as I was beginning to learn that I should take nothing for granted.

I entered what was now my side of the hallway, bracing myself for all the unnecessary ass-kissing I was about to receive.Nice dress, nice makeup, nice everything. The only thing that wasn’t nice anymore was me.

Strangely enough, I managed to avoid the crowd of fans, mostly becauseno one was around.Every single soul was gathered in the middle of the lobby making a huge circle, very similar to a ring. It didn’t take me long to guess who was in the middle of things since my king of bullying was nowhere in my line of sight.

‘What’s going on here?’ I asked one of the students that was just coming out from the middle of the events.

‘Someone parked his car in Cole’s parking space,’ the guy explained as if it was natural to beat a guy up just because he occupied the wrong square foot of asphalt.

I wasn’t going to stand there and do nothing, so nudging a few students aside, I built myself a corridor directly to where the action was. ‘Step aside!’ I had to call out to a few girls that were refusing to lose their front seats to the free show. But, as soon as they acknowledged my presence they bowed their heads as if I was fucking royalty, making me room to get in front.

By the time I got there, it was too late. The miserable guy that confused section lot A with B or whatever it was, was supporting himself on the wall as Cole was giving him the final directions ‘You fucking do that again and I’ll hook your car and throw it into the river. Got it!?’
