‘I was thinking that maybe there would be a part of the conversation that you might feel uncomfortable having with the other guys present.’

‘Oh, so you did come back for more,’ a satisfied smirk appeared on his face, as he was already considering that the alpha male had hooked another victim.

‘For more...answers. I do hope you’re referring to that.’

‘I thought you knew better than to insult my intelligence. You know exactly what I meant.’

I guess Brax was laughing only at his own jokes and he was expecting everyone around him to do exactly the same.

Except— I’m noteverybody. Never excelled at blending in.

‘I didn’t mean to insult you. I just want to know where you’ll be standing tomorrow. Will you join us?’

‘Us!? I get that you’ve already spoken with Cole and Ferris. Did they both agree!?’

‘Yes,’ I ghosted the words, knowing what was coming next.

‘For what price?’ He placed his left hand under his chin as he was thinking of what could have happened during my other encounters ‘What did they want in return?’

I didn’t answer. Not because I couldn’t tell him, but because realized I made a mistake. I let out a piece of information that automatically, in case of an acceptance on his part, will lead him to ask who knows what new deal from me.

‘Let me guess. They wanted to fuck you.’

My secret was out, although I didn’t think it was that much of a secret to begin with.

‘They wanted toextendtheir deals.’Fuck medidn’tseem quite the right word, although that’s what it really was.

‘Relax, you don’t need to use fancy terms with me. I already know Ferris fucked you two nights ago. Don’t know about Cole yet, but I’m sure I’ll catch up by tomorrow.’

Brax, the jerk was there, assuring that he lived up to his wordsnobody could ever love a monster.

‘You... You know!? He told you?’ I was surprised that Ferris talked to him about what happened between us. Surprised and disappointed, but I guess being disappointed was a daily state of mind for me lately.

‘I’ve talked to Ferris. He tells me everything. He was concerned he went a little too far.’

‘I’m not going to talk with you about what I do in Ferris’s bedroom,’ I snapped, offended that I was the local news in their own newspaper.

‘Then maybe you could show me,’ the invitation was clear.

And so was my answer ‘I made the deals because I had to. I am not a tramp to be passed from oneman to anotherout of boredom.’

‘Then what are you doing here?’ I could feel the annoyance in his voice building up. Not because of what I said, but because of how I said it. I made him feel like a simple man, and not Brax-the king.

‘I told you before. I want to talk about your help.’

‘And I told you before. I don’t have a death wish. Besides, I’m going to land on my feet. I always do.’

‘Your businesses in the Pit will be ruined. They will be worth nothing if the Elite comes through with their plan.’ Something needed to make him reason.

‘Not if I sell them in time. I found an investor ready to offer me a decent price for everything.’ That’s why Brax was so calm about what was going on. He already had a plan for his empire. Cash out and probably rebuild.

Though there was a side of the story he hadn’t taken into consideration, or perhaps he didn’t even know about ‘They won’t let you stay in the Hills. You’re not Elite. You don’t have their blood running through your veins.’

And then it dawned on him, I could see it in his gaze. No need for words. The thought definitely crossed his mind on other occasions, but he wasn’t certain of it until I confirmed it.

Maybe he thought he had a way out. That he could buy his place there with enough money. But the thing was, up in the Hills everyone had wealth, and paying off the ones in charge just so he could stay afloat could prove out to be an impossible task. No matter who he was down in the Pit.

‘Then I’ll relocate.’
