‘Is it?’ Ferris arched an eyebrow as I noticed his bottom lip twitch with restrained anger. He was angry at me.

My gaze fell to the floor ‘Yes... It is.’

But I didn’t find time to go on as Brax’s doubtful voice pierced through me ‘Why would that be?’

He, above anyone else, knew the answer to that question. It appeared, he chose to torment me instead.

‘You all knew that I have other commitments,’ I breathed as a knot tightened in my stomach.

‘Well, each one of you is standing in the same room with myother commitments.’

‘No fucking way. Talk about a small world, huh?’ Brax rushed to throw a few ironic words at me, underlining thedelicatesituation I was finding myself in.

‘So, what is this, Mouse? Have you called us here to choose a favorite, or what?’ As usual, Cole was running on empty when it came to patience, although his guess could not be further from the truth.

‘No, I called you here for a much more important reason than me trying to make sense of what is happening with my life,’ I rolled my eyes, irritated that Cole was seeing all of it as a joke. ‘I called you here because of the riots. Because of the upcoming Revolution.’

‘What could you possibly know about the fucking Revolution!?’ Cole showed himself somewhat amused that I spoke of such serious subjects.

‘More than you.’ And I was certain of my words, especially after having played the involuntary spy in a battle that I unwillingly made my own.

‘Let her speak.’ I never heard a living soul giving an order to Cole before. But Brax just did.

When it came to their hierarchy, the thing that stirred my thoughts was that Brax didn’t hold the ruling position. It was Ferris, not by authority or force, but by the magical vibe that always floated around him. The same magic that makes you drop at his feet.

Maybe the enigma of his darkness put him in charge, or even that perfectly damaged cradle of compressed anger that I was sure lye within him. He was the ruler of their world, and implicitly of mine. Though I already knew that last part!

‘I have information. Information that when put together reveals the catastrophic situation we all find ourselves in. And when I sayall,I don’t mean just the four of us. I mean the whole city.’ I had their complete attention, but I wasn’t sure if they were listening because they were truly interested or just because they found me to be amusing. Either way, I had to go on. I had to make them listen, no matter what the price. Because knowing all three of them, I had no doubt that there was going to be one.

‘The world as we know it is going to change soon. The hierarchies, social positions, everything,’ I continued, looking each one of them in the eyes as I spoke. ‘I’ve learned things. I’m far from being proud as to how I did it, but maybe it all served a greater cause. There will be a precise division of powers soon, and if the master plan works out, all residents of the Pit will be enslaved by the Elite.’

‘Enslavedis a hard word. Maybe have their liberties restricted when it comes to entering the Hills. I don’t see anyone going to such extents as toenslavethem,’ Brax tried to break my theory apart, yet he didn’t know the whole context. And for a man that was supposed to know everything, havingmeas the new source of information to the group couldn’t have sat well with him.

‘Cole...,’ I looked into those cobalt blue eyes, searching to see how much his father has told him on the subject, and at the same time, exposing myself in front of him.

‘Shit,’ he muttered through gritted teeth, ‘She’s right.’

‘What the fuck do you meanshe’s right!?’ my king of the underworld couldn’t hide his consternation, while Ferris seemed to be unbothered by what he just learned. Or maybe he was just weighing everything, so when the time came to decide on what needed to be done, he’d be ready. Either way, the darkness twinkling in his eyes was letting me know he was far more devious than any Elite plan put together.

And that should have scared me.

That should have fucking terrified me.

Still, against all rational thinking, he was exciting me.

‘The plan is to turn all of the Annelids into slaves. Not figuratively, but literally slaves. Like build a fucking electric fence, give them uniforms, numbers, and fucking tracking devices.’ Cole was confirming every word I said as being true.

‘I have information about the Elite bringing in mercenaries to stop this. But slavery, that’s too fucked up even for them,’ Brax spoke, searching his pockets for a pack of cigars.

‘Bea,’ a voice that I’d been waiting to hear echoed from across the room. ‘What exactly are the three of us doing here?’ Ferris arched an eyebrow, waiting for me to explain how they would fit into my plan, although I suspected he already had a very good idea as to my response.

‘I need you. I need all of you to try and stop this.’ Hearing myself speak, even I found my words amusing, asking something so important from three men who had always put themselves first.

‘In case you didn’t notice, I’m not in thisgame to save the world,’ Brax considered the message he was sending didn’t get through to me clearly enough.

Though I knew better than to gullibly take everything he said as the truth ‘Maybe you’re not here to save the world, but I do believe you are here to change it.’

‘As I told you before, I think you want to believe things about me that just aren’t real.’
