‘I love your dress,’ the flattery came pouring out even before I had actually reached my new end of the hallway as one by one myloyal subjectscameto introduce themselves, each one bearing a compliment. In less than five minutes, I was proclaimed to have the most beautiful eyes, hair, cheek structure, purse, shoes, dress, earrings in the entire Academy …and the list could go on forever.

Looking at the positive side of things, I now knew around five Kellie’s, three Jennifer’s, and more than another dozen people, who guess what!?They were all my new best friends. Kind of surprising for a person who before coming to Echo City didn’t have any. Now, I had it all. Or at least that’s what anyone who was looking from the outside would think, because, on the inside, everything was as rotten as Snow White’s apple, poisoned with the price I had to pay for all of their adulation. And if you were to ask me, becoming Queen B fit perfectly into thepricecategory.

‘Mouse,’ a demanding voice sounded from somewhere behind me as the crowd of girls surrounding me began to murmur, some in ecstatic glee while others in uncontained jealousy. Mykinghad arrived, a hundred percent ready to torture hisqueen.

‘Leave,’ he scattered the mob as he always does, claiming his part of the corridor only for the two of us.

I didn’t know how exactly was I supposed to act. I usually didn’t know how to act around him, but this time, I didn’t have the slightest clue. I just stumbled my way a few steps away from him between the students that were leaving, hoping that he wouldn’t notice my absence.

Foolish plan.

‘Were you going somewhere?’ That wicked tone again.

Busted!

‘Nah.. I was just... Just-’

‘Setting a little distance so that I don’t feel you up in public, or who knows what else goes through that degenerate mind of mine?’

Bingo!

‘No... I just thought that you were also referring to me.’

Liar liar, pants on fire!

‘Don’t lie,’ he gestured to me by curling his index finger to approach him, which I did, as forced by thecircumstances‘If you lie, the cat will get your tongue,’ he pulled me onto him, sneaking his tongue to pulse against mine with delicious wrath, hungry to own me.

I was beginning to suspect he enjoyed that specific saying, and from the way he savagely explored every inch of my mouth, so did I.

‘Did you miss me?’ He grinned as soon as his lips detached from mine, gluing one of his hands on the outer side of my thigh.

No, he wasn’t having confidence issues, and he most certainly wasn’t interested if my poor little heart was breaking without his presence. He was just deviously suggesting that one-on-one connection, always implying something outrageous, trying to plant thoughts into my mind.

So, did I miss him?

Hmmm.

Like the plague, though that answer could have sent me straight to the pits of college hell.

Still, my reckless mouth managed to screw things up one way or the other ‘I thought I was supposed to fear you, not to miss you.’

‘Oh, Mouse, you’re starting to learn,’ the evil gleam of satisfaction raising on his face was leading me to believe that I might just mess up again. ‘There’s a party tonight. On my street, three houses down the road. Be there at nine.’

‘How could someone resist an invitation like that?’ I muttered, coming face to face once again with hisromanticside.

‘You can’t deny any of my invitations, and you know it.’ Although he tried to make it sound like a joke, it was the utter truth. I wasn’t allowed to deny anything that he asked, although it couldn’t hurt trying.

‘Cole, I’m not in the mood for parties.’

‘But you are in the mood for an answer.’ That was indeed something that I was waiting for.

‘I’m not debating this, besides we’re just retracing the circle,’ he shrugged.

What didretracingreally refer to?

The party?

The date?
