I sigh in contentment, then snuggle against him, my head on his shoulder. He wraps his arms around me and presses a kiss to my head.

“You want to go home for a couple of days, Rae? Check if your place is okay? We can be back by Christmas Eve.”

“I would love that.” I sit up and look down at him. I’m fed up with the clothes I picked out under duress. And I wish I had more accessories. “When? I’d like to take all my stuff back. Repack differently now I know I’ll be here for a while longer. Pick up some of the work things I need.”

He cups my cheek and tugs me back for another deliciously long kiss. “Get cleaned up and be ready to go in an hour.”

The drive in King’s truck takes ten hours, and my excitement soars the closer and closer we get to Michigan.

Or maybe it’s the way King’s hand is edging up my thigh as he concentrates on the last two turns to my home.

“I would have thought you’d know the way without instructions,” I say as a voice fills the cabin of his truck telling him to take the next left. “You know, having been here before.”

King glances over at me and smirks. “If I’d known then what I know now, I might have stayed away.”

I can’t help but grin as he squeezes my thigh.

“Can we try something while we’re here?” I ask.

“Does it involve my cock and your ass? Because I’m game.”

I feel heat rise in my cheeks even though I’m no shy ingenue. His hand slides higher until the side of his palm is rubbing against the seam of my jeans. I grab his wrist. “No. That was not what I was thinking about.”

He doesn’t move his hand. “Is it what you’re thinking about now though? Because I’m totally game if you are.”

I smile as he moves his hand back to the steering wheel and turns left onto my street, then pulls up in front of my home and kills the engine. “Thank you for driving us here.”

His hand snakes around my neck and pulls me to him. “Still thinking about that anal. And you’re welcome,” he says before he kisses me.

When we get out of the truck, King grabs our bags, and I step onto the driveway. In the darkness, I see my home is the only one that isn’t remotely festive. There’s no tree at the window, no fire in the hearth, no wreath on the door. “I’m the only one without my Christmas lights up,” I say as I pull the key out of my pocket and let us in.

King loses his easy smile for a moment. “We can put some up if it makes you feel better.”

“It would.”

He drops the bags in the hallway and slides his arms around me. “You asked if we could try something while you were here. What was it?”

I place my palms on his chest. “Do you think just for these couple of days we could be Rae and Uther? Could we leave you being the president of an MC and me being the sister of someone you still think of as a traitor at the door? Can we do things without your cut?”

“You need that?” King stares down at me.

“I just want to see what normal would look like. Everything about your life is so extraordinary. Here”—I look around my hallway—“you can just be you. Be at ease without any of the responsibilities.”

He releases me, then slips out of his cut and hangs it on a hook in the hallway. When he’s done, he takes both my hands and kisses my knuckles in a sweet gesture that makes me feel cherished. “Uther and Rae for two days.”

“We’ll make it feel like a lifetime.” A lifetime I’m not certain we’ll get, even if we both want it. Rising onto my toes, I kiss him softly. His hands slide to my back.

“Why d’you always taste so damn good?” he asks, his lips a whisper away from mine.

I smile as I pull away. “We need to bring the groceries in, I need to unpack, and someone needs to build a fire.”

“What we need is to get naked. It’s been forever.”

“It’s been ten and a half hours.”

“Exactly. Forever.” The badass biker in front of me pouts like a toddler about to have a tantrum.

“I’m sure you can last a little while longer.”
