When the alpha turns around, he doesn’t immediately see the fallen beta because the body is, again very conveniently, hidden behind a desk. He resumes his pacing. Apparently nobody notices that one of their number has suddenly and inexplicably disappeared because none of them have a reaction to his absence.

I can barely keep myself from staring at the ceiling. I never, ever, in a thousand years expected Jasper to appear in an air vent to try to save our asses.

Devon might be dead, afterall.

Nobody but me and Seth see Talia’s torso drip from the ceiling, a gun in both hands. They’re all too busy watching the alpha pace, or staring at each other or Derek.

I can see Jasper’s hands gripping her vest, he must be holding her weight so she can shoot the alpha in the back of the head before he turns around on his next pass. She also shoots three of the remaining betas.

One shot is most definitely fatal, the side of the beta’s face explodes all over Mitchell where he’s leaning against another desk. At this point they are all appropriately alarmed, and Trent is standing in his cell laughing like a psychopath.

I turn my attention back to where Talia was dangling from the vent, but she’s not there anymore. I quickly scan the ceiling, trying to anticipate where she or Jasper might pop back through without calling attention to it.

Only myself, Seth, and Trent know where the attacks are coming from and we need to keep it that way.

Seth discreetly pulls something from his pocket and tosses it toward the door, causing every eye to turn in that direction.

My omegas pour out of the ceiling like fucking ghost ninjas and disappear under the furniture in the back of the bunker.

“What was that?” Mitchell whispers. “Rob, go listen at the door.”

Rob looks like that is exactly what he didn’t want to do, but he goes. Everyone watches him walk to the door and put his ear against it. He turns back shaking his head, and that’s when Trent screams, “BANG!”

Every head turns toward him with varying degrees of irritation, Derek actually moves to stand in front of Trent’s cell. I can guarantee he doesn’t really want to open it. He’ll be lucky if Trent doesn’t pull him through the bars at this point.

Rob walks back toward this side of the bunker and everyone is too busy watching what might happen between Trent and Derek to see him being pulled to the floor when he walks between the two desks.

We won’t see him again, not with a pulse, anyway.

A small, quiet pop comes from the side of the room with the desks.

“What was that?” Mitchell hisses, “where did Rob go?”

Derek is standing just far enough away from Trent’s cell to be out of reach, and he doesn’t break eye contact with Trent when he growls, “go fucking look. He didn’t just disappear.”

Mitchell definitely does not want to go look. It would be hilarious if there weren’t two other betas besides him, and also Derek for Jasper and Talia to deal with. Fear makes people react differently. Mitchell has always been a coward, but Derek isn’t, and I don’t know about the other two. “Go look, Jace.”

Jace looks every bit as excited to go look as Mitchell, but just like Rob, he goes. “Come on Evan, let’s go.”

I guess they’ll utilize the buddy system. I can’t let myself worry about whether or not Jasper and Talia can handle two betas. After what I’ve seen in the past few minutes, not mentioning the fact that Talia killed several on her own a couple months ago, they should be able to handle them just fine. Still…

“Look out!” I yell, and point to the air vent in the corner of the room just behind Seth’s cell. As expected, everyone, including Trent, looks where I’m pointing.

“What is it?” Mitchell whispers, straining to look into the vent, “I don’t see anything? Is that where the gas is coming from?”

Then we hear the sounds of my omegas quietly and efficiently killing Jace and Evan. The time for hiding must be over, because when Derek and Mitchell turn to see what the sound was they see both Jasper and Talia rising to their feet with bodies slumped in the floor between them.

“Hello Mitchell,” Jasper says with a truly horrible smile.

To his credit, Mitchell doesn’t hesitate.

I guess seeing that it’s only two omegas he has to deal with gives him a false sense of confidence.

Derek attempts to go over to help Mitchell, but Seth’s arms snap out as he’s walking past his cell.

I didn’t expect Seth to move that fast considering the shape he’s in, but I’m glad for it.

“Let go, Seth. You still have a way out of this,” Derek growls, but Seth doesn’t respond. He keeps a tight grip on Derek, holding him tight against his cell. It’s a shame he can’t do more than just hold him there, but it’s at least something.
