“And I promise to always be open with you as well,” Thomas replied.

With those words being spoken between them, they sealed their promise with a sweet, gentle kiss.

The two of them turned back and they gazed out of the window together again. The night sky was nearly white with the light of the stars and the great big moon that lay in the distance.

Another star shot through the sky, and this time they were able to share it with one another. From the room in the little house they had rented out for the week, it seemed that they would be able to see everything.

They would go to Bath after a week and enjoy all of the things that Adrianna had told them they must do. But Sophia was quite content in the meantime to be here, to be close to no one and nothing but her husband.

She felt a pang in her chest for all the time they had lost, but tried to remind herself not to be too upset about it. They were together now and they had a future to enjoy, a future to love.

One day, they would certainly have children of their own. They would have a nice estate. Thomas would grow in his skills at the business and Sophia would be an ideal mother. She had all of these things determined.

And yet, standing there, watching the beauty outside, she could only think of the net few moments. She could only consider how special each one was and how she longed to appreciate each.

“What was your favourite part of the day?” Thomas asked.

Sophia thought through it all. There had been a lot and it was a little bit overwhelming to try and picture each thing. There had been so much joy while celebrating with the people who mattered most to them.

She thought about seeing her mother and father, all of their friends. Miss Wainwright cried as she stood in attendance and it caused Sophia to laugh and quietly point it out to Thomas, who was amused as well.

The woman had been delighted by their inevitable union and had not hesitated to show it over time.

There had been dancing and feasting and conversation. There had been company and flowers and promises.

She had loved it all, but supposed there had been one moment in particular that had really stuck out to her.

“I think it was the moment we declared our commitment to one another. I was so happy to be able to promise to be yours always and to have you promise the same in reply. There could be nothing better than knowing that we are inseparable. Forever. Before the eyes of God and men,” she told him.

“Yes, that was quite wonderful,” Thomas agreed.

“And what was your favourite moment?” she asked.

“It really is an unfair question I suppose. You did well to answer it, when I do not know if I can. Perhaps it was when my eyes first found you. Or maybe when we were declared as man and wife. I don’t know, I think the entire day was so perfect that I should just like to do it all over again,” he laughed.

“Oh, could we?” Sophia asked teasingly.

“Only if we can do our wedding night all over again as well,” Thomas replied with a wiggling of his eyebrows.

This elicited a girlish laugh from Sophia who nodded eagerly. She was somehow not surprised that this was what her husband would deem the best part of the day for himself. It had been ideal for her as well.

But the time for that was not immediate. Rather, they spent time reminiscing on the past and looking ahead to the future with a great number of thoughts upon the present.

They spoke of the children that they would one day have and the children that they had each once been. They planned for the time between now and their first offspring and the things they wished to accomplish early in their marriage.

Thomas spoke of the goals he had for his work and how he was striving to learn and do better, to make himself ready for promotion without having to rely on only his father’s generosity, but rather be confident in his own skills.

“You should know that you are doing well. Your father has told me that himself. Nobody sees you as using your ties to your father in order to become what you are in the business. Even the other men have noticed that you are right for the position,” Sophia told him.

“Yes, it is within my skill set, but that doesn’t mean it is enough. I have to be better. I want to show them that I know exactly what I am doing and how to do it well. I want to be worthy of my role, the very best that there is,” he told her.

“I am very proud of you. I cannot fathom how hard you work. And I am eternally grateful that you do so for the sake of me and the family that we are going to have,” she replied.

Thomas beamed with pride at this compliment. He was happy to know that she saw these positive qualities in him. He had told her as much. And because of that, Sophia made every effort to remind him often how she saw such good things in him and that he often made her proud of the things that he did and the ways that he would strive to do things well.

When the week ended at the small house, they made their way to Bath. Officer Kingsley had told Thomas exactly where they ought to stay and Adrianna had given Sophia a long list of activities for them to do.

Although they did not plan to stay as long as their friends had, it was more than enough time for them to enjoy it.

In Bath, they did a mere fraction of what had been recommended, but they wanted to take their time with everything and not become exhausted before returning to the countryside where they had found a home to live in.

Sophia was eager to get back and start their life as a normal, married couple. Although she loved the honeymoon and loved seeing other parts of the country, it was not as good as the thought of being a wife and facing the general routines of marriage that others experienced daily.

But each night, they made it their tradition that they would look out at the sky and lift their eyes to search. When the stars showed, they were ideal and the two would wait for a perfect star to streak across the sky, reminding them of the promise they had made.

They would love one another always. And they would be open. That was a promise they would hold to.
