No matter who’s standing in front of our door, it would be a terrible idea to let them see Logan with blood all over his hands and face, with a barely clothed, barely conscious, and equally bloody girl in his arms.
“Nick?” I ask upon seeing that it’s a police car illuminating the porch, the respective cop leaning against the hood.
“Thank God, Max, I was close to going in,” Nick says, relieved for whatever reason.
“Sorry, we were just chugging some beers out back,” I say, wiping my hands on the sides of my cargos. “What are you doing here at—fuck, what time is it, anyway?”
“2am,” he fills me in with a tired sigh.
“Did someone complain?”
“No, no. Could gutter a screeching pig out here, and no one would complain,” he says, shaking his head. “I’m on patrol. We’ve been having a few issues lately, and when I saw your car sitting in the driveway with no lights on anywhere in the house, I got worried.”
“What kind of issues?” I ask with furrowed brows. Nothing ever happens in this town, apart from when the local troublemaker couple spices up their marital issues with a bit too much booze.
“Can’t talk about it, they’re gonna send us people from way up soon. Whole department’s on edge.”
“Bad time to be chief of police, eh?”
“There’s no good time to have this job,” he answers, running his fingers through his hair.
“Hey, just between us, Nick. Should we be concerned? We’re having someone with us, and we thought about letting her stay at the cabin for a while…”
“I wouldn’t,” he says without a second of consideration. “Look, you should be good as long as there’s obviously life inside the house. The problem is the countless vacant cabins. Some of them were... Let’s just say borrowed. So far, we haven’t had any incidents involving an occupied cabin, but I could never forgive myself if anything happened to your—girlfriend.”
The last word sounds a bit like a question, and when a smile flashes over my lips, it’s the first time I’m seeing something other than worry on Nick’s face tonight.
He pats my shoulder, and after we’ve exchanged some more town gossip, Nick’s radio comes to life, and he has to continue his patrol.
I’m not worried about whatever monster is running rampant in these woods. No one from here would dare to enter a house affiliated with Logan, and anyone who isn’t from here would quickly find out why that is the case.
The thought of Lily being in danger is what makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up because until now, I had hoped she could stay here, out of reach for the 203.
Darkness greets me as I enter the cabin, the silence only disturbed by the sound of running water. I head straight to the master bathroom, happy that Logan at least thought of cleaning himself and Lily up before he drops the poor girl in a bed.
Dimmed lights cast a cozy glow over the bathroom, wheretwo pairs of wet footprints lead the way from the shower over to the whirlpool at the far end of the room. Nestled into the corner, it’s placed perfectly to oversee the lake, but the sight of the lake isn’t what makes me so nervous that I hastily walk through the room.
It’s Lily, snuggled up against Logan in the tub, her hands innocently wandering over his body. While I don’t get why I have to explainhisboundaries to her, I still don’t want him to punish her for something she doesn’t even know she’s not allowed to do.
“You okay?” I whisper toward Logan.
Lily nods dreamily as if my question was directed at her, and Logan tilts his head back to look at me. Lily’s hands trail over his chest, up to his neck, over the scars not even I am allowed to ask about.
Softly, I grab her hand, wanting to distract her, but Logan swiftly removes my hand from hers.
“Let her. It’s okay.”
Oh.
“Shower, and then come join us, sunshine.”

LILY
Warm water trickles down my body, washing away all the blood, dirt, and cum on my skin while I slowly come back to my senses. My first orgasm already made everything feel kind of dizzy, and the second one knocked me straight off my feet.
I only remember fragments, and strong arms picking me up before I was carried back to the cabin. Convinced that it’s Max spreading suds over my aching body, I blink my eyes open to stare right at a tattooed chest.
