“Ryder!” I grip his shoulders and shake him. “What did you do to Cali?”

The look he gives me is tired. “She ran.”

I shake him again. “That’s bullshit!”

“She did.” He roughly shrugs my hands off him. “She was a prisoner here, Miles. What did you expect? I’ve been telling you this all along.”

My world drops out from under me. She…ran? But she was so happy when I left. Glowing and happy and content.

I snap my gaze to Ryder, a snarl building in my chest. “You took her.”

He starts toward the front door. “She left of her own free will, Miles. We have to go too. Once the cops catch wind you guys are here, they’ll be knocking down the door.”

I lunge after him. “I could care less about the cops. Where’s Cali? Did she leave on foot? Where did you take her?” My heart is racing, and my ears are ringing. Normally, I’m calm, but more fear fills me right now than I’ve ever felt.

Ryder ducks out the front door, and I follow him, freezing at what I see on our street. It’s a goddamn crop duster. A fucking plane sitting right there on the road.

What the hell is happening right now?

Ryder strides up to the pilot, exchanging words.

Sawyer. I dart back inside and down to the cell, ripping the door open.

Sawyer is lying on his side, bound to a chair.

“What the fuck?” I bark, darting toward him.

He blinks groggily.

“Fuck! Sawyer, are you okay?”

“Cali,” he groans. “Ryder did something to Cali.”

I glance around. Fucking hell, I don’t have a knife with me.

“I’ll get you out. Just hang on.” I dart upstairs, then realize the knives are still in the sex room. I cuss, running back downstairs to get one. When I finally do, I cut the zip ties, only to realize he’s cuffed to the chair.

“Fucker!” I hiss. “What did he do to you?” I sit Sawyer back up.

He shakes his head slowly, slurring his words a little. “Drugged me. That mother…fucker.”

“What did he do to Cali?” I ask.

Ryder’s voice comes, making me jump. “I didn't do anything to her.”

“Right,” I snarl.

Sawyer hisses, “Did you kill her?”

Ryder looks calm. “You didn’t let her have a choice. So I let her choose.”

“What?” I run my hand through my hair. “Unlock him. Right now.”

Ryder puts his hands in his pockets. “Sawyer, the cops are after you too. We have to go. I have everything set up, and our ride is outside.”

“The fuck?” Sawyer spits on the ground. “All I care about is Cali.”

Ryder winces slightly. “She’s safe. Please, Sawyer.”
