She huffs out a breath. “Why are you calling me that?”

“Not sure what to call you. Not sure what your name really is.” Despite my words, I’m relaxed and comfortable, my arms loosely around her waist, my chest still heaving.

“I told you.”

“Aye. But you’ve also lied about it once already, so who’s to say you are telling the truth now?”

She pouts. “You still don’t trust me?”

I snort. “No, can’t say that I do.”

“I don’t trust you either.” She doesn’t attempt to move out of my lap.

And, despite her words, soon enough, she’s snoring lightly in my arms.

Idon’ttrust her, but my body betrays me just the same.

My eyelids start getting heavy.

I scoop her up into a bridal carry, and she doesn’t even stir as I lie her down on the bed.

I could crawl into bed with her. Just get a couple of hours of shut-eye.

I blink at my own thoughts, shaking my head vigorously.

What the hell is wrong with me? I’m acting like Dare.

I’ve got to get a handle on whatever it is I’m feeling for this woman.

Chapter Twenty

CILLIAN

Dare turns to me.“It isn’t fair. She trusts me, wants to be with me; she’s not going to escape.”

I scoff. “She trusts you? Why in God’s name would she do that?”

“Because. We have something, Cill.”

“You passed her around between us. What something?”

I regret my words as soon as Dare’s face falls.

I can’t help this strange feeling in my gut every time I think about Dare and Isla together, even when I had been involved.

I think some part of me knew this woman was trouble the moment I laid eyes on her.

And now it’s my turn to relieve Liam, and although Darren’s pissed about it, I’m doing my duty.

Liam doesn’t want Dare taking his shift for a few days, and I guess he’s worried about him letting Isla escape. Either that, or he’s jealous.

Doesn’t seem like Liam to get attached to a target, but he’s been acting so strange lately.

Dare shakes his head. “You wouldn’t get it, Cill.”

I close my mouth, not wanting to snap at him. I don’t know why I’ve been feeling so on edge lately—like something bad is going to happen. Well, somethingworse, anyway.

It’s not like this mission has gone smoothly.
