“Thank you. I don’t mind a little fair competition, but when people start killing both your client base and mine, they are dipping into our pockets. And there is no way I’ll let that slide.”
“Good. In the meantime, let’s have a drink.”
“I’d love a drink,” I say, although I’ve sworn off alcohol after what happened last time I drank.
When Cormac turns to pour the drinks, I pull my phone out of my pocket, texting Dare and Cillian.
It’s time.
I have no idea how this is going to go down.
It’s a good plan, but “the best laid plans” and all that shit.
Even if we get Isla back, she may be angry with us, she may not want us anymore. But as long as we have her with us, we can take our time to win her back.
And then there’s the issue of Cormac. He won’t take this lightly, and we’re going to be in for a full-on war.
I don’t care. He is a thorn in my shoe, so bring it on.
But I’m ready to do whatever I can for Isla and the baby.
I’ll lay down my life for them.
That’s what love is.
Chapter Forty-Five
ISLA
Irene is a sweetheart, and honestly, I feel sorry for the girl. She’s been locked up in this mansion her entire life, sheltered. She has no idea what goes on in the outside world.
“I forgot to tell you yesterday, we have a movie theater right here in the house!” She bounces around my room, dressed in a yellow sundress.
It’s barely six in the morning. Who has the energy? Not me, that’s for sure.
And it’s not that spending yesterday afternoon and evening with her wasn’t fun; it was. But I’m just so ready to get out of this place.
“I can’t leave my room, Irene, you know that.”
She scoffs. “Da’ll never know. He’s always locked up in his office, and the guards are all protecting him.”
This could be my chance.
If she gets me out of my room, maybe I can escape without having to hurt her.
If I have to, it will pain me, but I will hurt her, even if she doesn’t deserve that.
But what else can I do? Wait for the guys to save me? Who says they’re even coming? Maybe they think I ran off again and gave up on me.
I’ve been here for three days, with a possibly broken nose and a black eye. And the hits to my stomach yesterday may have harmed my baby.
“I’d love to watch a movie. But what if the doctor comes when we are in the movie theater? I’m sorry, but I don’t want anyone to hit me again. Maybe we can watch a movie after I see the doctor?” I smile at her, hoping she doesn’t see that it doesn’t quite meet my eyes.
I have no idea if anyone is even looking for me, so I have to save myself, whatever it takes.
I thought at least Cillian would come. Dare and Liam hadn’t taken the news well, but Cillian had seemed excited.
However, he’s loyal only to Liam and his father, so he’ll listen to their orders. And maybe Liam has decided I’m not worth the trouble.
