Chapter Three
Carly
I open my eyes as sun beams into the tiny room. Looking next to me, I see someone I never thought I would again.
Jaxon Peters.
We were best friends until sophomore year of high school. He got kicked out for fighting, and I never heard from him again. I always wondered what happened to him. I never would have imagined finding him here. The boy I remember was skinny, my height, and had a face full of acne.
The man next to me towers over me, his large build completely intimidating. His face looks older like he's been through hard times. The way he looked at me last night though, I saw glimpses of that boy. I must have fallen asleep when he left last night, but I would have thought he'd have gotten me up and made me leave.
I slip out of bed and slowly get dressed. Looking at my phone, I see six missed texts from Jess.Crap.
Jess: where are you?
Jess: you still with Wrench?
Jess: I just asked Brick, and he said you guys were still in his room, get it, girl
Jess: they’re making us leave
Jess: want me to wait?
Jess: call me once you're up, and I'll come back
"Going somewhere?" I jump at the sound of his voice. Large hands wrap around my bare stomach. Clasping my shirt in my hand, wishing I had put it on before checking my phone.
"I was gonna call Jess and have her come get me," I say, my voice not as strong as I'd like it to be.
"No." His lips press against my neck, and I melt against him. "We need to talk." He releases me, turning me to face him. Backing up a few steps, he sits down on the bed and pulls me onto his lap. Before I can question him, his lips are on me, and I forget that I even wanted to say anything. "Fuck, you're like a goddamn drug."
I smile against his lips. Then I remember whose lap I’m on. “Where have you been all this time?”
His head shakes. "Not getting into all that. What matters is that I found you and there's no way I'm giving you up."
“What’s that even supposed to mean?” My forehead rests against his. I came here to escape my past relationship, not find a new one.
"I don't know right now. Shit is complicated." His teeth drag over my bottom lip. "I'm gonna give you my number. Anytime you're coming here, you text me first, and I'll meet you outside. Understand?"
I nod.
His hands brace the sides of my face. “I’m serious Carly, don’t walk in that door without letting me know.”
I nod again not knowing what the big deal is. "What do you want from me, Jax?"
"Everything." It's all he says before pulling my mouth to his. His tongue invades my mouth, and I moan at the feeling of him inside my mouth.
Fighting my way out of the haze that he created, I pull away. “I can’t give you that.”
His eyes study me. “Why?”
I open my mouth to reply, but I close it again.
The door to his room opens, and Brick walks in. "Gotta clear out. Pres called church." He glances at me but walks away.
“Fuck. Text Jess and get her here now.” His tone is angry and short.
“Okay,” I say, completely taken aback by his change in mood. “Stay in here ‘til she gets here.”
