Whoever was here today will pay for coming near her.

“Torch!” I hear Shooter call my name and walk out onto the main floor. “What the fuck is going on?”

“Someone broke in. Trace said when she walked in the office the safe was open. I haven’t checked it out yet. Whoever it was, they were still around when she got here. Luckily they broke a bottle and she heard it. Locked herself in the office until I could get here. She’s pretty shaken up.”

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Shooter picks up a glass off the bar and throws it at the wall. “Find the fucker and show him exactly what happens when you fuck with Deathstalker property and members.” He walks past me toward the office, no doubt to check on Tracie. While she isn’t an official member, everyone knows that she’s club property. She is protected by us the same as any brother’s old lady would be. It’s also common knowledge that this place is ours. Whoever was here must have a damn death wish.

“Any clues?” Twisted is looking at me.

“No. Back door is busted. Cameras were running but I’m gonna bet that the asshole made sure to cover himself up. I don’t know everything that was taken. He was gone before I got here.” My hands scrub my face. I was too late. I pushed my bike to the max getting here but he must have heard me coming.

“Jesus. I’m gonna call the prospects and get someone on Nikki.” Nikki is Twisted’s old lady; they have a four-year-old girl named Lily. I know he’s thinking that if this isn’t random, his family could be a target especially with him being VP.

“I think that’s smart. I’m gonna let Whip know that he should put someone on Lucy, especially since she is pregnant.” He nods at me before pulling out his phone and walking away.

After I text Whip, I decide that I’m going to keep an eye on Tracie. I don’t want to chance that maybe the club wasn’t the main target and she was.

I walk back to the office to see Shooter crouched down behind the desk. “They cleared it the fuck out. Everything is gone.” Holy shit. “I’m calling church tonight. Spread the word.” I nod at him.

He walks over to Tracie. “Hey, you okay?”

She nods at him.

“I’m gonna assign one of the prospects to you.”

“I’ll do it.” They both turn to look at me. “I didn’t get here in time today. I won’t make that mistake again.”

Tracie’s eyes go wide and it seems like she is about to say something when Shooter takes a couple steps toward me. “Outside. Now.”

I follow him and once we are out of her hearing range he turns to me. “What the fuck are you doing? We all know that you have a thing for her, but now isn’t the fucking time. If you think taking this detail is gonna get you in her goddamn pants then—”

I cut him off, which I know is dangerous. “I want to do this to keep her safe. Whether or not I want her isn’t the issue. I will protect her.” My voice is steady.

“You better not fuck this up.” Shooter walks away from me.

I walk back to the office and Tracie is where we left her. “Can I take you somewhere?”

She looks up at me. “No, I-uh I still have work to do.” She stands up, unsteadily walking over to the desk and picks up some loose papers. Her hands are still shaking and I know she is trying to put on some bullshit act like she’s okay, but I see right through it.

I walk over to her and take the papers from her. “It can wait.”

Her eyes meet mine and the fear in them is overwhelming. I reach out to pull her to me, but she backs away.

“I’m going home.” Reaching down she picks up her purse.

“Okay, I’ll follow.”

She stops walking mid-stride. “No.”

She won’t even turn to face me for some reason. “I’m not askin’. Until we figure out what the hell is going on everyone is on high alert. Nikki and Lucy have prospects on them. The other guys are setting things up for their families. We aren’t leaving you unprotected.”

“Then give me a prospect.” I can’t see her face, but her voice is lacking the normal confidence she has.

“Sorry, princess, you’re stuck with me.”

She doesn’t reply, she just walks out of the office door and toward the entrance to the club.

Twisted is standing there giving orders to a few of the boys. When he sees Tracie coming he dismisses them.
