“Take him to the hospital, and make sure he gets the very best care. I’ll pay for everything. The kid is only 16.” He tells one of the men. “Find out everything about him in the meantime. Where he goes to school, who his friends are, where his family lives. He owes me big time and I want to make sure he’ll make good on his debt.”

“Did he sing?” I recognize Que’s voice. I don’t know why I’m surprised he would be here and not at home with Hayley and their baby.

“Like a canary.” Cameron pauses. “Jackie.”

The admission stuns Que and he’s silent for a long moment. “Really?”

“Yeah. No one here should be surprised by that.” Cameron replies. “She’s probably behind what happened at the house back there.”

“And the dealership as a diversion,” Que replied. “Several cars were smashed and ripped apart. They were looking for something but they weren’t in those cars.”

“They’re not in any cars and she should know better,” Cameron yawns. I think it’s more out of boredom, and not being tired.

“She’s stepping up her game in a spectacularly stupid fashion,” Que says with a chuckle. “She really does want these problems.”

“The stupid usually do,” Cameron replies with a bit of annoyance. “Why should I ever deny a woman what she wants?”

“What about her?” Someone inquires about me.

“I’ll take care of Tay. She’ll be living with me forever.” He says.

Cameron talks more with his men about plans while the kid is taken to the hospital to get treated. My heart is racing about what happened tonight and I’m sure it won’t be the last encounter.

I’m also incredibly aroused by all of it. Cameron protected me without a blink of an eye and handled those men like nobody’s business. I still have more questions than answers, but I’ll get them all in due time.

Now, I just want Cameron to take me to bed.

 Ten

Several armed men and women greet us upon arriving back to Cameron’s estate. They’re all lined up on the stairs, dressed in all black. I feel like it’s a moment from New Jack City and everyone is greeting Nino Brown.

They open the car doors and escort us inside while other security drive the car off for further inspection. Cameron takes off his coat jacket and hands it to Maria, while she grabs my purse. I’m startled by the sudden intrusion, but I quietly understood why. They need to make sure there are no trackers placed on our belongings or us.

We enter the foyer where Cameron’s house team surrounds us. He calmly rattles off instructions to everyone, explaining what happened to us, and to be prepared for war and more disruption within the next several days.

He says the name “Jackie” and everyone turns toward each other with obvious smirks, and head shakes. Whoever this Jackie lady is, it’s clear they were familiar with her and are more annoyed than scared by her.

“Homework,” Cameron hands Tesh the documents containing everything about Daddy’s various properties. “I want a full report on this within 72 hours.”

Tesh smirks. “48.” She beckons a few other people and they follow her down the hallway. It’s clear Tesh is more than the house manager; she’s practically Cameron’s right-hand.

Que may have been the muscle and street, but Tesh is the Southern grace. No one would look at Tesh and think she’s part of a drug ring and nothing about her would give it away. Dare I say, she’s probably deadlier than Que.

Cameron takes my hand and leads me upstairs to his bedroom. He places a hand on the security panel and the door clicks open a second later. He steps aside so I can walk in first and he follows behind me, letting the door shut and lock.

“Is the door always locked?” I ask.

“Always.” Cameron mentions. “Certain people have access and I always know who was in here when I wasn’t. I have no reason not to trust my team.” He walks into the closet and I follow him. “These people have been with me for a while now; some years, others at least a decade. They know how I operate. Everything that goes in this house, stays in this house.”

The level of privacy and respect Cameron’s team has for him is unmatched. I feel only Secret Service would have tighter security than he does. “Because of your father?”

“Because of me,” he removes his tie and shirt, exposing his white tee underneath. His muscular frame fills it out and I feel my mouth water in anticipation. Cameron is completely cut, without being too muscular. His look is completely streamlined and just delectable.

He removes his watch and shoes and sets them aside. “Tesh will be here in a short while to pick that up.” He eyeballs me. It’s not a look of wanton lust but of an examination. “You need to get undressed as well. Remove everything. Wash your hair. Remove makeup.”

Remove any trace of what happened tonight. It was also effectively removing any semblance to my old life. The irony wasn’t lost on me. “My clothes are being examined,” I considered, “I don’t have anything else to put on.”

Cameron smiles. “Come here.” He walks to a door inside the closet and opens it. He flicks on the light and steps inside. “I probably don’t have all of your measurements correct, but this is a good start, yes?”
