Would I be okay be connected to Senator Page knowing what his true feelings are?

“Everything is good,” I admit, “just hanging in there.”

“I bet.” Meadow comes out a few minutes later and we examine her gown. She chose an off-white gown with spaghetti straps and a large skirt full of tulle. “What do you think?”

“If this was 1999, yes.” Hayley shakes her head.

“It is pretty dated.” I admit.

“Yeah, that’s what I thought. Back to the drawing board, I go.” She picks up the gown and the assistant follows her into the dressing room. “What about you, Tay? Have you and Cameron talked about marriage?”

“I’m not sure if I want to marry him, honestly.” I admitted. “Not that I hate him or I want to be with someone else, but I don’t know if marrying Cameron is what I want.”

“So, you’re just going to stay his girl without the ring?” Meadow asks from the dressing room. “I know he’s not seeing anyone else.”

I never saw myself as just being the forever girlfriend. I know marriage isn’t for everyone, but I can’t see myself not being married. It seems silly that I’m used to being with Cameron without being fully committed to him. “Looks like it,” I shrug.

“Wait a minute,” Hayley turns towards me, “you mean to tell me that despite the whip you’re driving, the designer you’re wearing, and the mansion you’re living in, you wouldn’t marry Cam?”

“Okay, maybe you’ve forgotten what our men do for a living but I haven’t,” I quietly reply to her. “And honestly, I don’t want to deal with that for the rest of my life.”

“You think anyone is going to come after Cam when you’re with him?” Hayley asks.

“They’ve already tried, Hay!” I feel like I’m in Bizarro world. “They’re not going to stop until they’re successful, boo!”

“And what happened to them?” Hayley folds her arms as I look away. “Yeah, that’s what I thought!”

Meadow comes out with another gown. This one is a silhouette sleeveless gown. “What do you think about this one?”

“Too top-heavy.” I shake my head. “You’re spilling out and honestly, you just gave me a black eye.”

“Make that two black eyes.” Hayley covers one eye. “You put the real meaning to ‘Throw some D’s on that bitch!’”

“Whatever!” Meadow laughs and flips us off. She goes back to the dressing room with the assistant. “And Tay, you’re serious about not marrying Cam?”

“I can’t marry someone who hasn’t asked?” I shrug. “And there’s no telling when he’ll do that.” I pause for a brief moment. “Besides, even if he does propose, it’s only to get my property.”

“What?” Meadow asks. “What do you mean?”

“Cam revealed to me a while ago the whole reason why he got with me to begin with.” It bothered me more than what I wanted to admit. Everything began to make sense. I never brought it up again because there was no point. To say I’m stuck with Cameron now is an understatement. “His intentions with me weren’t pure.”

“But now they are,” Hayley counters. “And that was well over a year ago, Tay. He explained to you why he did, didn’t he?”

“It still doesn’t change if Daddy didn’t own that shop, Cameron wouldn’t have looked at me twice.” I glance down at my manicure. “So, there’s that.”

“He got with you because it was in your best interest, Tay.” Hayley was clearly influenced by Que and I shouldn’t expect otherwise. “Jackie is coming for everyone she doesn’t have under her control. She has no interest in the little fish when she can go after the biggest one first.”

“And that’s supposed to make me feel better, because?” I cock my head.

Meadow comes back out with a cream mermaid gown. This one is the winner. He compliments her pear shape and makes her look sweet and sexy at the same time. “What do you ladies think?”

“Perfect!” Hayley raises her glass.

“I love it!” I beam as I raise my mine.

“We got a winner!” Meadow bounces in her heels. “Now, we need to do this all over again when my mom and aunties come back. I wanted my girls’ opinion first before family. You know how family do.”

“And you know I throw hands, I don’t care if it’s family.” Hayley warned as I playfully pushed her. “Look, I’ll knock a bitch out I don’t care who’s Nana it is!”
