The people who owned businesses at those locations never spoke a bad word about the landlord to my father and I never heard them say anything bad in general. For all of Cameron’s hangups, that were one good thing about him – he took care of everyone.

If Jacqueline were successful in purchasing Daddy’s property and land, she would’ve had a bird’s eye view of everything going on with Cameron at any given time. Fresh Espresso was in the middle of everything.

She specifically wanted Daddy’s place, and none of the other businesses. I suddenly don’t feel hungry anymore for the cheesecake, despite how delicious it is. “Is that why she had my father murdered?”

“We suspect she did,” Maria replies. She’s a White woman with dark hair and reminds me a little of Angelina Jolie. She’s just as alluring as her with a smoky voice and hypnotizing eyes. “The problem is we can’t prove it. Jackie is smart enough not to be directly involved with any crimes. So while Clayton killed your father and is dead himself, Lamont’s case is officially closed.”

I should’ve been happy with the conclusion but I’m not. I thought I would’ve been happy with Clayton’s murder but I’m angry about it. He got off easily. I will forever suffer. “But Clayton’s case is still open.” I reply.

“For the time being,” Tesh adds as she takes a bite of cheesecake. “They have to prove it and let’s face it, Clayton had a mile-long rap sheet. He was rumored to have many bodies of his own. The Atlanta P.D. isn’t going to spend too much trying to avenge the murder of anallegedmurderer.”

“So, where does that leave me?” I ask.

“Jackie paying a visit to you meant she wants you to know who she is. The visit, as you may have guessed, was a not a friendly one. Jackie will become more aggressive in her approach soon. It might be tomorrow, it might be the next day, it might be a year from now.” Maria warns.

I naturally gulped. I don’t know who this Jackie lady is but she’s powerful enough where Cameron didn’t even attempt to threaten her. This is becoming more serious than I had anticipated or warranted. I want nothing to do with whatever beef is going on between Cameron and Jacqueline.

“Aggressive in what way?” I blink. “I don’t know how to shoot. I don’t know anything about guns. It’s bad enough Ethan is watching the shops’ every move…like what am I supposed to do? I can’t have security parked out in front the shops every day! It’ll scare the customers!”

“I’ll teach you how to shoot,” Cameron quietly replies. “You need to learn how to shoot, anyway.”

I never held a gun in my life. They scare me and even seeing them in close vicinity makes me tremble. Now I have to learn how to shoot a gun for my own protection and sanity.

My head is spinning and all of this is just beyond my comprehension. “I need to go upstairs and just think about everything. This is just too much to handle right now.” I excuse myself from the table and head straight to the bedroom.

Taking off my clothing, I don’t even bother putting them in the hamper. I crawl into bed wearing just my bra and panties and stare up at the ceiling. My heart is pounding and blood rushes in my ears.

I wish I took Cameron’s advice and stayed ignorant to everything he does. The more I know, the more unsafe I feel. Now I know too much and I’m scared to even leave the home.

I turned off the lights and flipped through my phone. Under my photo memories, I see endless photos of me and Daddy together. When I lost my first tooth. When he put on my corsage for prom. When he guided me at basketball practice.

The more recent photos make me smile. When Daddy opened Fresh Espresso’s second location. When I came with him to get a new car and he let me drive it home. All of the photos of him with various celebrities, rappers, and other dignitaries.

My heart aches for Daddy. All of I have left of him are memories. Good memories, painful ones, but I cherish them all. He paid his taxes. He never spoke bad about anyone. He was a friend to all.

“I’m cool with many faces in different races, just don’t come with the disrespect.”I can imagine his raspy voice saying it to my uncles over a dominoes game. And because of some stupid turf war, Daddy was gone like he never existed.

Wiping the fallen tears from my eyes, I set my phone down and fall asleep.

I woke to Cameron’s scent; musky with a touch of wood and rain. My eyes slowly opened as I felt his mouth kiss my bare shoulder and place small kisses down my arm. I moaned my response and rolled over just in time for him to slide on top of me.

He covers my mouth with his, savoring my lips and playing with my tongue. He kissed me slowly and deeply as to prove a point to me that I belonged to him and I was going nowhere.

“Cameron…” I breathed once he moved his lips down my chest. He pulled me up and took my bra off as his arms wrapped around my back.

“I know I should let you sleep but you looked so beautiful, I had to interrupt.” He attempts to run a hand through my hair and he finds a bonnet instead.

“I can take it off,” I mention.

“Don’t. I’m not about to fuck your bonnet.” He smiles at me and I giggle. He laid me back down and I spread my legs to accommodate him. Sliding down my chest, Cameron captures one breast with his mouth while a hand squeezes the other.

My body arches to his mouth, experienced mouth. His tongue licks around my nipple, before trailing down my chest, then to my navel. He pulls my panties down before he stops when he comes to the vee of my sex and softly caresses the tiny bit of hair.

Cameron admires my pussy, knowing it’s just for him and only him. He pets it like a prized possession and takes care of as such. He never tries to “beat it up” or “destroy it” when we make love. He practically worships it and guards it.

He lifts one of my legs over his shoulders and licked between the creases. He gently sucked on my clit before he resumed licking it, changing his style from flicking to circling around it. He made it bounce on that wonderful tongue of his and I almost worshipped him back.
