“Hey,” he pulls me in for a hug and wraps his arms around me. I breathe in his musky scent and exhale. “We’ll get through this. We’ll find out who destroyed your home.”

“Yeah.” I nod. “I hope sooner than later.”

“Hey,” Cameron pulls back and cups my face, “never doubt me, angel. I’ll find out who did this and I’ll handle them.”

It was that moment, looking into Cameron’s deep brown eyes, when I realized I’d officially crossed over to the other side. I was no longer trying to play games and straddle the fence between good and evil.

I totally understood where Cameron came from and wanted to exact all of the revenge on said party. Whoever destroyed my home and messed with me was going to have hell to pay, and I wanted Cameron to be the collector.

“One last thing I need to get,” I step away from Cameron and walked over to the dresser, “can you help me with this?”

“Yeah, sure!” He walks over and we move it about ten feet. I remove the carpet underneath, and get out my keys. There’s a locked compartment in the floor and I open it. There are a ton of papers in various folders.

 “What are those?” He asks.

“Fresh Espresso and everything related to it.” I say as I close the compartment and move the carpet back. Cameron helps me move the dresser back to its place. “Daddy always kept his business affairs separate from the office at the shop and here. He told me about it just before he died.”

Hindsight is 20/20 and I realize Daddy knew his life was in danger. He didn’t act differently too much but certain things he did leading up to his death made me concede he knew he didn’t have much time left.

I hand over the documents to Cameron and he looks over them. His face is emotionless but that doesn’t mean anything. There could be a raging fire inside. “Lamont knew he was a target,” Cameron adds and I nod.

“Someone wanted Daddy dead more than they wanted him alive. “ The thought burns me. “They got what they wanted.”

“Just because you get what you want, it doesn’t mean things will work out in the way you expected them to.” Cameron’s eyes have a slight twinkle of mischief to them. “And sometimes people have a funny way of making sure that won’t happen.”

We both know it was a thinly-veiled nod to Cameron’sother activities.Cameron has hinted he’s killed before and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.I don’t push it for good reason.

“’Nesse, I hate to interrupt but we have a situation,” Que walks in as a few of their crew follows him.

“What’s up?” Cameron pulls away and walks up to him.

“There was a break-in at one of the dealerships,” Que spoke to Cameron, “a few vehicles were damaged so we’re going to check it out.”

“Okay, do that. I’ll take Tay home.” Cameron replies.

“Cool. I’ll tell the guys to follow you so you two will get home safely.” Que suggests.

“No,” Cameron shakes his head, “it’s a quick ride and the dealership is more important. Check that out.”

“You sure, man?” Que asks. “We can afford to send one car with you.”

“We’ll be good. I have a couple of pieces in the car so no one would be attempted to try anything. If they do, they’re about to have an unforgettable night.” Cameron grins. “Check out the dealership and report back.”

 “Got it.” Que replies.

Cameron turns to me and kisses my forehead. “You’re staying with me forever, Tay. I meant that. It’s simply not safe for you to be here. Whoever did this will come back and they’ll target the rest of the house. If you’re here, they’ll harm you as you watch them destroy it.”

I don’t even argue the point. It’s clear I’m being targeted but I don’t know by who or what. My personal belongings were left alone, but it was clear someone wanted whatever they felt was in the office.

What’s more troubling is I don’t know if Cameron would be able to stop them.

“Tell Your Friends” serenade us as the ride back to Cameron’s home is long and contemplative. It only takes twenty minutes to get to his home, but we’re taking the long, scenic route. Cameron knows I have too much on my mind and maybe going straight home isn’t what I need right now.

Home. I guess Cameron’s home is my new one. I’ve been to the house twice, barely spent the night the first time, and now I’ll be moving in permanently. He wanted me to move in with him this weekend and it’s all too convenient I was burglarized.
