I watched as he straddled the bench next to me and shook my head.

“You don’t want to know, Troy.”

“Tell me, Cowgirl.”

“This was your life? Ridin’ then sleepin’ your way around?”

“Sometimes, yeah.”

I didn’t want to be hurt, or upset, and I really couldn’t figure out why I was. But I was. It did hurt to see this.

“Would you want to go back to it?” I whispered.

He reached over, pushed a piece of hair behind my ear, and slowly shook his head.

“This doesn’t appeal to me anymore, Anelise, you need to know that.”

His eyes told me the truth, but my mind was screaming at me not to trust it.

Chapter 14

~ Anelise ~

Two days later, I groaned as I lay before the toilet, emptying my stomach once again. Like this, in the fetal position, I couldn’t help but wonder what was wrong.

I rubbed my stomach, and then sat up, my heart pounding as I mentally went through the dates.

“Fuck. Me,” I muttered, grabbing my phone and checking my app.

“I’m late.”

Chapter 15

~ Troy ~

Iwas upset at the crew on the circuit; I wasn’t going to lie.

Sure, they didn’t know I had changed. And it wasn’t like they knew that my end plan wasn’t to be lonely or to sleep around. But did they all have to scare Anelise away?

I mean, she has been avoiding me since we got back from the rodeo a few days ago. She hasn’t been around the house much, from what I’ve seen. And when I thought she’d been at the barn, she wasn’t.

Markus told me she wasn’t feeling good and was in her room, but she won’t answer my texts, and it’s showing me she’s reading them.

So, what gives?

What can I possibly think, other than she didn’t believe me when I laid my heart on the line?

Was I in love with her?

I didn’t know.

But I knew she meant something more than just a lay.

Even if it was some of the best damn sex of my life and I really couldn’t wait to do more.

I frowned as I wrapped up with a horse, wondering if I shouldn’t just go to the house myself. I mean, no one would mind, and it wasn’t like everyone knew I was seeing Anelise.

“Whatcha think, Rainbow? Should I go check on her?” I asked, quickly grooming the horse so I could leave. She nudged my shoulder, as if agreeing, and I couldn’t help but laugh. “Thanks for the vote.”
