The entire club was already at the park, the tents set up, and chairs set out for everyone to sit in. My heart raced a little as we approached, would they accept her? Would they even like her? I didn’t think it really mattered, but just the thought of them not loving Gina and Alex as much as I did, just didn’t seem possible.

Wasp was the first to greet us, and the second Alex saw him, he was crawling out of my arms, and into his. “Mr. Wasp! I start school next week!”

Wasp grinned, allowing Alex to tell him all about it. He’d been spending a lot of time at my condo, saying he couldn’t stand being around the clubhouse much. I didn’t really blame him. The last few months have been all about Snyder and Shasta, and even though they were better about flaunting their relationship in front of everyone, Wasp was still stung by it. You could tell.

“Where’s the happy couple?”

“I think Snyder is over there somewhere.” He waved in the opposite direction, not looking like he really cared too much. “Hey, Gina, mind if I take Alex over to the swings?”

Gina shook her head. “Go right ahead, Wasp.”

Alex got excited, practically racing across the grass. “Hey! Wait for me, kid!” It was kind of hilarious watching Wasp try to catch the little bundle of energy. It’s not easy running in leather and tight jeans.

“You know, I’m starting to think that all bikers will make pretty kick ass dads someday,” Gina said with a smile.

“Who? Wasp?” I laughed. “There are things about that man you’d never understand. Dark things.”

Before I could clarify, I caught Snyder’s eye, and he immediately started heading my way.

“Glad you could make it, Brother,” he stated, pulling me into a hug. I’d gotten better about hating him. And that Shasta shit, I was over it now. No more whining like a little bitch over a girl I never loved in the first place. Not when I knew what real love felt like now.

“Congratulations, man. The place looks great.”

Snyder smiled at Gina. “Good to see you again, Gina.”

“You too, Snyder.”

“Where’s Shasta?”

Snyder pointed to a tent where two of the prospects were standing guard. “Over there, not letting me see her,” he said, chuckling.

Turning to Gina, I took her hands, giving her knuckles a swift kiss. “Do you mind if I go talk to her?”

Gina shook her head. We had a conversation about this last night, and she encouraged me to finally mend things with Shasta and stop holding a grudge. She understood I needed this—we needed this—but most of all, Shasta needed this.

“Sure.” She gave me a kiss on the cheek, and I avoided Snyder’s scrutinizing stare.

“If you make her cry, I’ll kill you,” Snyder growled.

I waved him off. “I won’t.”

“I’m serious, Clash…”

I turned around, walking backwards toward the tent. “So am I. Just trust me, okay?” I knew he’d probably be worrying the whole time, but he had to get over that, just like I had to get over my stupid bullshit.

The two prospects moved out of the way, allowing me inside. Shasta was sitting at a mirror as Ramona did her hair. It had been a long time since I saw her. Axl was sitting on a chair in the corner, holding his baby girl in his arms. There was another girl there too that I didn’t recognize. She had ice-blue eyes, olive tinted skin, and long black hair that swung down past her waist. She was very beautiful, but didn’t hold a candle to my Gina.

“What’s up, Brother!” I exclaimed, shaking his hand as he grinned from ear to ear. “How’s father life treating you?”

He laughed. “Probably the same as it’s treating you.”

He had me there. “Mine’s at least potty-trained.”

It was then I saw Shasta’s hesitant face, she seemed weary of me being there. Yeah, I’m probably her least favorite person in the world. But I was here, already waving my white flag, eventhough she couldn’t see it. “Um, do you guys think I can talk to Shasta alone?”

Ramona looked at Shasta, who gave her a silent nod.

“It’s okay, Ramona. Why don’t you go feed Summer? She’s hungry.”
