Mockingly, I laughed. “You actually think this is about you and your bitch? Get over yourself.”

“Don’t fucking call her that! I’ve warned you before.”

“Look, I don’t have time for your incessant nagging, Snyder. I’ll be back when I’m back. Either fucking take it, or kick me out of the club. At this point, I don’t fucking care.”

Snyder let out a groan. Frustration and anger overwhelming him. “I need you back at the club later today.”

My silence only pissed him off more.

“Clash, I’m fucking serious. I’m ordering you to come back to the club today. As your fucking Prez, you do what I say.”

“Fuck off, Snyder. I’ll be there when I’ll be there.” No one was going to tell me what I am or not going to do. Especially nothim. At least not until I was ready to face him without wanting to throw a goddamn punch.

I wasn’t sure why I was so angry. Snyder saved my life, and he’s been nothing but cool since he got back, but something inside me was seething. The very sight of him made my blood boil like molten hot lava and I was seconds away from blowing my top.

He tried to call back, but I shut my phone off, too pissed off to care. Something was telling me to stick close to Gina. I had a bad feeling, and it was like my spidey senses were tingling. As long as this feeling kept nagging at me, I refused to move, watching over the woman who breathed life into my soul.

Heavy sleeplessness took over, and my eyes got extremely heavy. Twenty-four hours without sleep will do that to a person. I’d been sleeping during the day, but only when I knew she was safe at work. But tonight was especially hard. All night, I’d start nodding off, then wake myself up the second I heard a sound. I don’t even remember falling asleep, but not even two hours later, I was awoken by a familiar voice, breaking through my brief moment of slumber like a bucket of cold water had been splashed over my body.

“Mommy, I can’t wait to play with the flowers!” Alex exclaimed, racing to the car in the driveway. “Can I make a bouquet today?”

“Absolutely,” Gina said, beaming at her son. You could tell that the woman absolutely loved and adored him. He was her whole reason for living.

“Yay!” he shouted, holding the teddy bear I got him in his arms. Just seeing him with my stuffed gift brought me joy.

Fuck, I’m simping hard. Fuck me.

My tired body barely could lift my head as I watched them drive off, sticking to the shadows of the trees as she passed by.But I could see the fear in her eyes. It was like she knew someone was out here watching her.

Ten minutes later, I was begrudgingly trudging up the steps, knocking on the door to the old woman’s house.

It took a few minutes for her to answer the door, but when she did, she was all smiles.

 “You’re late.”

“You know I’ve been out here the whole time.”

She nodded. “Scaring the shit out of Gina in the process.” She smacked my shoulder. “Don’t be so stupid next time.”

 Geesh, sorry, lady.

“Come on, don’t keep me waiting. The coffee’s gonna get cold if you keep lingering in my doorway like that. Do you even sleep? You got vampire eyes and bags that could fill the bottom of a plane.”

“Thanks, lady,” I grumbled, stomping in behind her until I threw myself down on her couch, sagging against the comfortable pillowy fabric. She placed a cup of coffee in my hand, and I greedily took it, needing the caffeine to get me by.

“The name’s Bessie, my friends call me Bess. You, sir, can call me Bessie.”

She was unfazed by my glare, that smile of hers never wavering.

“Why the fuck did you call me here?”

“It’s impolite for you not to introduce yourself after I’ve introduced myself to you. Like I said, I’m Bessie, and you are?”

 “Clash.”

 “Nice to meet you, Clash.”

Grinding my teeth, I grumbled, “Likewise, I guess. Now, why the fuck did you call me here?”
