I shrugged. “I didn’t think you cared, Hadley. Unless you’re just here to observe me in action. By the way, tell Addie I say hello, I bet she fucking misses me.”

Fuck, I shouldn’t have played poke the pig today.

Totally provoked, Hadley’s door flew open, his salty glare drilling through me as he brought out his gun, pointing it at my smug face.

Gina screamed, scooping Alex into her arms as she backed away from me.

“Get on the ground, asshole!” Hadley barked. “Now!”

Holding up my hands, I got on the ground, assuming the position I’d grown so accustomed to. “Okay! Okay! You don’t have to be so gruff about it. I’m getting down.”

“What do you have on you this time, Chuckie Boy? Drugs? Weapons?”

“Actually, if you asked me a few months ago, my answer would be your wife’s pussy on my tongue.”

He kicked me in the side, pretty fucking hard too. I think I may have heard a rib snap.

“You’re going to pay for ever fucking with me, Chuckie Boy.”

He started manhandling my cut, searching through pockets, practically ripping them in the process.Nobody fucking touches my cut and gets away with it!

“Don’t fucking touch the cut, you filthy pig!” Pushing on my hands, my reflexes were on high alert, about ready to attack the fucking cop who was definitely abusing his power. But beforeI could even get to my feet, his steel toe boot connected with my head, stars instantly flooding my vision.Hadley’s got a real heavy foot.He bent down, his knee pressing into my back as he whispered in my ear, “You fucked my wife, now I’m going to fuck your girl.” Then he slapped the cuffs on me, rendering my arms helpless.

The hell he will.

“Don’t hurt him!” Gina begged.

I briefly lifted my head, only to find tears in her eyes as she shielded Alex from watching. I couldn’t let him touch her. I needed to protect them both.

“If I were you, lady. I’d fucking run while you have the chance. Chuck here is a known fucking Outlaw.”

“Lewd Outlaw, get it right, pig!”

When Hadley didn’t find anything on me, he threw my head into the concrete, creating more stars and a few birds floating around in my brain. “Maybe I should check the lady, huh? Maybe she’s carrying your shit this time?”

He didn’t have any reason to search her, and I could see the fear in her eyes as she started to back away from him.

The prick grabbed her purse, yanking it away from her.

“Aha! What is this, huh? Looks like dirty money to me.”

Gina tried to grab her purse back, but Hadley kept it out of her reach. “That’s mine!” she cried out. “I just pawned my wedding ring.”

Hadley chuckled. “Yeah, right.”

“Ask the guy inside. He just bought my ring.” She motioned to the building behind her, the one with rusty metal bars and falling apart bricks. If she thought Corky would help her, she’s delusional.

Corky will sell you out, sweetheart. Don’t rely on him.

Hadley smiled evilly. “It looks like police evidence to me.” He started counting the bills. “Seven thousand of them to be exact.”

Her angelic face turned a sickly shade of white as he took her money and headed to his car.

“You can’t just take her money, asshole!” I thrashed against the cuffs. “Hey, asshole, are you arresting me or not?”

He threw the cash on his passenger seat, then turned back around. “Guess it’s your lucky day, Chuckie Boy. Seems like your little girlfriend bought your freedom today.”

He unhooked the cuffs, and as much as I wanted to punch him, I held myself back, knowing it would only cause more problems. Scrambling to my feet, I stood tall, ready to go toe to toe with Hadley if I had to. But it seemed like all the dirty cop saw was dollar signs because he got back in his squad car, tipped his cowboy hat to Gina, and smiled as he said, “Now you two have a wonderful day. I know I will.” Then the asshole drove off, leaving me hurting and Gina in a mess of tears as he stole all of her cash. That bastard wasn’t going to take it in as evidence. If I had to guess, he was gonna pocket that shit the second he got down the street. He wasn’t wearing his body cam, and I noticed his dash cam was turned off like always.Fucking corrupted Austin Cops! They’re goddamn useless, I tell ya.
