Her eyes narrowed, her mouth setting into a scowl. “So, you’re going to keep me here as a prisoner?”
“No,” I exclaimed, shaking my head. “I just have a bad feeling. That’s all.”
“Clash, you don’t need to worry about me. I can take care of myself.”
“Can you? Because last I checked, it was me that helped you out of that bad date. You were just pissing the asshole off.”
She glared at me. “That really was the worst date ever.”
“He was a tool. He didn’t deserve you.”
“And who does, Clash? You?”
“Maybe… unlike him and your ex, I’m here, Gina. Doing whatever I can to protect you.”
She didn’t seem convinced.
Alex yawned, wandering over to the bed before crawling under the covers. “Mommy, I’m sleepy. Skittles and I are going to bed now.”
“Okay, baby.” She kissed his head, and every part of me wanted to do the same, feeling my paternal instincts kick in. I refrained, of course, but the feeling was overwhelming.
My phone rang, and despite my better judgment, I answered it.
“Where are you?” Snyder asked, sounding a bit frantic.
“At home. Why?”
“I need you at the club, Clash. Now!”
There was an undertone in his voice that almost sounded like fear. “What’s going on?”
“The cops were just here and took Wasp into custody.”
“For what?”
“A mysterious finger that appeared on the Austin Police Department’s doorstep.”
“Fuck!”
Gina shot me a worried glance, so I moved out of the room, locking myself in the bathroom upstairs. “How?”
“I don’t know. Ranger and Sandman said a couple appendages were missing from that severed hand. Looks like Ratt sent it to our favorite pigs.”
“But why Wasp?”
Snyder sighed. “Because an ‘eye witness’ placed him at the crime scene.”
“Who?”
“Your guess is as good as mine. I need you here, Brother, please.”
I didn’t want to leave Gina and Alex, but my club was in trouble, and I needed to go.
“Clash, please.”
“Okay, I’ll be there as soon as I can.”
The line went dead, and when I exited the bathroom, Gina was standing outside the door, worrying her lip with her teeth.
