“Okay, then what should we do with our wards?” Xari asked, clearly trusting their word. It helped calm me further. He could feel every emotion but they didn’t know that, so he would be able to read their true emotions. If he trusted them, then so did we.

“First off, don’t just ward against people that want to cause you harm. That’s how we found you and there’s likely mages after you who don’t intend to kill right away, allowing them to find you. Secondly, you’re all powerful enough to add a drain on those who try to find you,” Nikki explained.

“Drain?” I asked, feeling extremely curious now.

“When someone searches for you and then finds you, you can have a drain effect on your ward, punishing them by draining them of magic. It won’t kill them, but they’ll lose their track on you andhave to spend at least a week to gain their powers back. It is the best choice for you if you want to remain hidden.”

“How do we do that?” Niam asked.

“You just imagine what I just said. Sometimes it’s easier to talk to the ward you’re making, telling it out loud what you want it to do. It also ensures you don’t forget something if you all have to say it out loud.” Nikki was truly helpful.

Tim then gestured that he wanted to speak next, showing us so much respect that I was afraid we were being pranked. Xari nodded for him to speak.

“I know the legends spoke of another talent of magic, that each of you would have different abilities. Please don’t tell anyone what they are. They are your hidden talents. Only trust each other with the knowledge of those powers.” His gaze landed on the RV, likely knowing Julie was hiding inside.

I trusted Julie, but maybe it was wise not letting her know those parts of our magic. She knew I could move objects. But did she know the powers of the others?

I shook my head, focusing on the mages in front of us again.

“Noted,” Xari said, nodding in thanks to Tim.

“Another thing before we leave you,” Nikki said. “When you return home, make a portal for the eastern forest. That’s where we have a camp set up to welcome you. If you show up somewhere else, we fear the leaders will fight you unfairly. We will stay close and watch over you, removing your trail whenever possible. Fix your ward before continuing.”

We left the gas station feeling confused but also empowered. We had help. We had supporters. A world full of surprises, indeed.

Chapter 25

Wilston

“That was so weird,” I said, tugging Silver further against my chest. Xarius and Niam were back behind the wheel and we used their bed for another round of sleep.

“So weird,” he agreed. “But Xari can literally see if someone is lying, so having him trust their word meant everything.”

“I hadn’t even thought about that,” I admitted. “Now I feel less worried that they were playing us.”

“They did teach us something useful, and the fact we should keep our special abilities secret was a good warning, too, especiallywhen we have to face the leaders.” I hummed in agreement, tracing my fingers around his waist. My hand had sneaked its way inside his t-shirt, longing to feel my bonded’s naked skin.

“Xari told me we’re only ten hours away from Altair now,” he said excitedly. I shared his excitement. Would he fit right in with the rest of us, too? Or would it take some time for him to warm up to us?

I couldn’t wait to meet him. I felt so accepted with these men, and with Julie, too. I hadn’t thought about keeping quiet once since Silver and I had bonded, knowing they wouldn’t be mad if I were to say something stupid. And the best thing was that it hadn’t even happened once. I’d never experienced them getting mad or hurt by my words. It was freeing.

I knew we had to sleep, but it was hard lying with Silver in my arms and not touch him, to not let my fingers bring him pleasure. He was always unbelievably beautiful when filled with pleasure.

My fingers somehow found their way inside of his pants, caressing his hardening dick.

“Wilston,” he groaned, opening his legs for me. “You better finish what you’ve started.”

I chuckled and kissed down his neck, still stroking his now fully hard dick. “Like I would be able to leave you unsatisfied,” I huffed. He knew I was growing more and more addicted to him.

“Good.” Then he tugged his pants and panties down, exposing himself. It was my turn to groan. Scooting down the bed, I couldn’t stop myself. I needed to taste him again. I took him in my mouth, not caring that we were in Xarius and Niam’s bed and that we should be sleeping.

“God, babe,” he moaned, threading his fingers through my hair. “Just like that, yes.” I swirled my tongue, loving that I finally had him in my mouth again. I wanted to master this form of pleasure; I wanted to be the best he’d ever had.

He came all too soon, and as much disappointment I felt over having to stop tasting him, the look of absolute love and satisfaction on his face erased all that. Instead, I just felt like the luckiest man alive.

Silver pulled me up, meeting my lips with his own in a desperate and needy kiss. I knew he wanted to return the favor, and even if I was dying to get his mouth on me, too, I knew we were getting close to Altair and Silver really needed his beauty sleep.

“Get some sleep, my darling,” I whispered. He pouted but snuggled into me. I chuckled and kissed his hair, loving how perfect he fit in my arms.
