“We did,” Silver replied. “Thank you by the way, it really sped things up.”

Niam only nodded and smiled. I had no idea what they were talking about, but it was likely the tub. It had been impossible for us to stay away from one another after that had happened.

A twig snapped to our right and there stood a white wolf, no silver was more like it, and a huge stag with big and gorgeous antlers.

Our familiars were here.

Chapter 16

Silver

I squealed and ran toward my wolf, hugging it tightly against me. I finally had my very own familiar!

“Please don’t name it Silver or anything with Snow in it,” Niam begged. I laughed. Like I was going to name it after myself or give it something as unoriginal as Snow. I shook my head; I thought they knew me by now. Checking to see if it was in fact a male wolf and yep, it was, I started thinking about names.

“Shamus,” Wilston said, and I immediately got mad, that name would’ve been perfect for my wolf and I was just about to say thatwhen I realized he’d spoken about my wolf. I looked over at him where he kneeled to my right, petting Shamus’s white fur.

“Shamus is perfect,” I replied, grinning widely. I finally understood what Niam had meant by it feeling like you suddenly had a family. These familiars were ours, making us a family. Now that I knew how protective I was over my own familiar, I felt even more honored that Niam and Xari had let Snowflake sleep with me. It was truly a sign of their respect and care for me. It almost made me weep. Almost.

“Now we just need to find one for mine,” Wilston said, looking at the beautiful beast standing beside us. He had this calmness over him, like he was the king of this very forest, his eyes all-knowing and wise. King would be fitting.

“King,” I said, feeling the name on my tongue and liking it.

Wilston laughed. “King is a fitting name.”

Niam bounced on his feet, eager to meet our familiars, too, but allowing us the space we needed. I laughed, “Niam, you can meet them, too, if you want.”

It was his turn to squeal as he ran over to us, mindful not to startle our familiars. Xari pouted from where Niam had left him. “What about me?!” he called out indignantly.

We all laughed and waved him over.

Shamus was the perfect familiar for me, and it seemed King was perfect for Wilston, too. Shamus was loud and bouncing around as he chased Snowflake. Those two were already great friends it seemed. King stood and observed the others, like the king he was. He didn’t seem particularly fond of Leon, eyeing him like he was a ticking bomb or something. I guess he was pretty chaotic, especially with the whole nose obsession thing he had going on.

“Should we test your magic?” Niam asked, smiling brightly as he looked fondly over at Snowflake and Shamus playing.

I shot my gaze over to my bonded, his eyes met mine and he smiled and nodded, ready to practice his magic with me. “Let’s go,” I grinned, moving with the others to the side of our enclosure where we didn’t have much we could ruin.

Xari clapped his hands like he was our teacher for the day. “Niam and I tested our magic on a tree, so.” He created a tree with his earth magic and waved for us to give it a go.

“You start,” Wilston whispered into my ear, his hand on my lower back, giving me his support. I nodded, knowing it was now I would find out my elemental magic. Niam and Xari had two each and together they had all four elements. I would be so pissed if we only had one each.

I raised my hands towards the tree and first thought about rain and then rain started pouring down over the tree. “Omg!” I exclaimed, jumping in place as I celebrated. I had water magic!

“Try fire now!” Niam shouted, just as excited as me. I focused on making the tree burn, but nothing happened.

“No fire magic,” I told them, preparing for earth magic next, picturing the leaves growing bigger and greener, but nothing happened. “No earth magic,” I sighed, feeling less enthusiastic now. I had wind magic left, and if I couldn’t do that then I would be less powerful than Niam and Xari, not that it truly mattered, but I’d thought we would all be equally powerful. I’d hoped that would be true, making us truly equals.

Wilston leaned in and whispered, “Make the leaves fly, my darling bonded.” I smiled and thought of just that. The leaves flew off the tree and circled it. I focused on moving them and then... then Iripped the whole fucking tree out of the ground, making it fly around with the leaves. We all gaped at the sight.

“I um, I can’t do that with my wind magic,” Xari admitted sullenly.

“Are you sure that’s wind magic?” Niam asked and I shook my head and placed the tree back down.

“I’m not sure,” I admitted, looking around for other things to move. A big log got my attention and I raised my hands and willed it to move. It lifted off the ground easily and with my hand movements, I made it move around as I pleased.

“You got specialized magic, too!” Xari whooped from further behind me.

I let the log down and turned around to the others, having moved away to find the log. “So, I can move objects?”
