“Take a look, mama,” Terry said, showing her a picture she must have had lined up on her phone.
“Oh, that’s not him!”Vivian exclaimed, “Luke is much better looking than that.Does it even look like him?...”
“Let me see that,” Gigi said.
Luke froze. He hadn’t actually expected Terry to do it.Maybe he should have known Terry was going to unleash all her weapons at once, but now it was too late.He had underestimated her...
Chapter 79: Retaliation
Everyone spoke at once, positing their opinions, and for a while it was total chaos as people compared different photos on their smartphone screens.
Gigi leaned over to Hallie and asked, “Is he really the prince?”
Hallie didn’t know what to say, too distracted by the action unfolding around her.Somehow she had a feeling they would figure out that it was Luke.Terry smiled maliciously from across the table.
“I think his nose is all wrong,” Bob Masone grumbled.
Terry’s husband was the only other person who didn’t seem excited, and Hallie guessed he already knew the truth.
Vivian tried to look back and forth between Luke and the media images.
Finally, she said, “Itishim!”
“Yeah, I could have told you that,” Luke said, leaning back in his seat, looking resigned but self-satisfied as ever.
For a long while, everyone sat there absorbing the information.Sam’s mouth was wide open as he gaped at Luke.Vivian frowned in confusion, while Gigi smiled in wonder.Bob was busy reading the articles, his eyes goggling as he learned about the prince’s bad behavior.
Then Gigi whispered, “Should we call you ‘Your Highness?’”
“No, please,” Luke said, “This is Texas. There aren’t any royal titles here.”
“You’re the royal prince?”Sam said, “Why didn’t you tell us?”The question seemed to be addressed both to him and to Hallie.
“Don’t look at me,” Hallie said, “I didn’t know either.Well, not at first. And then Luke wanted it to be kept secret because he’s trying to work here like a regular person.”
“Oh, understandable,” Vivian said, and the others nodded their approval.
