They rushed the dress to the local tailor, and after some begging, managed to get it resized on the spot.
At six o’clock Luke arrived at the apartment to pick her up.He looked dazzling in his silk white shirt and black suit.Yet, he seemed more surprised by the way she looked.
Hallie was wearing the fully altered dress and some sophisticated makeup applied by her friend. She had to admit, even Terry would have been hard-pressed to find any fault in her appearance now.Her eyelashes curled and volumized to perfection, her complexion looked dewy, with just a hint of pink blush and matte beige eyeshadow that complemented her honey-brown eyes. The red lipstick Jessica applied was a perfect match to the color of the dress and really tied the look together in a sophisticated way.
For a moment, the prince stood there frozen in the entrance hall of the small apartment as if he had never seen a well-dressed young lady before.
Chapter 44: Secret Skills
“Well, I’m ready togo,” Hallie said.
Suddenly, Luke realized he was staring. He couldn’t help himself, completely stunned by her beauty. The red velvet gown hugged every curve of her figure perfectly, leaving him at a loss for words.
“Yeah...”Luke said, still unable to take his eyes off her.“Miss Santer did a good job choosing your wardrobe.”
“It wasn’t Miss Santer,” Hallie’s friend, a gorgeous brunette, jumped into the conversation.“Just so you know, the dress Miss Santer picked out was hideous. She compromised her professional integrity just to make Hallie look bad.”
“I guess you found another dress...”Luke said, still in a bit of a daze.
“Yeah, I don’t need Miss Santer to choose for me,” Hallie said.
“I won’t be picking a fight with either of you anytime soon,” Luke said, pretending to be intimidated by their feisty energy, though maybe it wasn’t all pretend.
“That’s good because you’re still on probation as far as I’m concerned,” the friend said, “And as for these fake dates and fake relationships, I don’t fully approve, but you better show Hallie a good time on this so-called date.”
“Yes, Ma’am,” Luke replied.
“By the way, this is my best friend Jessica,” Hallie said.
“I think I remember you,” Luke said.“You were there the night I was kidnapped.”
“I advised against it,” Jessica declared with a pout.“But since you’re part of our lives now, you better be on your best behavior.”

WHEN THEY ARRIVED ATthe restaurant, Luke watched his date closely. Not just because she was gorgeous, but also because he wanted to see her reaction to the ambience and the high-faluting people they were about to meet.
