Lexi looked at me blankly for a second. “I guess nothing. Unless they are as attracted to a nice set of tits as I am, that is.” He eyebrows waggled hilariously. “But let’s be honest, a woman would much rather watch a man wash a dish than whack his dick.”
I thought back to last night, when Enzo had cleaned the kitchen after I had cooked. Lexi was right, that was just the sort of thing that would turn a woman on. And it gave me an idea.
“Lexi, I was wondering if you had some time this week to meet with me. I have a few concepts I’d like to run by you, if you can spare the time.”
“Sure thing, girl. My hours here are pretty standard, but if an emergency comes up, I can always work remotely from wherever as long as the Wi-Fi is accessible.”
“What kind of porn emergency would you think you’d get called for?” I asked her as we exchanged phones to add our numbers for each other. When she handed mine back to me, I noticed she had labeled herselfSexy Lexi.
“Why don’t we save that story for a night out?” Lexi said with a laugh. “You been out on the town in Vegas yet, girl?”
“How did you know I’m not a local?”
She scoffed. “Bish, please. I can smell it on you. Now, have you had a chance to see the sights?”
I hadn’t ever been out on the town anywhere, but I kept that to myself, just shaking my head.
“Well, I’m gonna change that for sure.” The look in her eye should have frightened me. “Stick with me, kid. I’ll show you how to do Vegas right!” She finished the statement with a shimmy of her shoulders, and I threw my head back and laughed.
For a second, I had forgotten why I was even at the warehouse. But then, my reality was thrown into stark relief when I caught a looming shadow out of the corner of my eye.
Enzo stood in a doorway behind Lexi’s desk, his arms folded over his chest and a frown on his handsome face. I sobered quickly, elbowing Lexi and interrupting while she sang“Viva Las Vegas”and twerked against me, her butt dancing against my pelvis.
Lost in her own world, she continued to dance like a mad woman until Enzo cleared his throat loudly. Lexi jerked upright quickly, her head coming up and slamming into my shoulder with a heavy thud.
We were both a bit shocked, but Lexi recovered first.
“Oh, hey, boss-man. What’s good?”
“Alexis,” he drawled, that whiskey voice low and menacing, and I hated the shiver that ran up my spine when I heard it.
Lexi cringed. “Oh, shit,” she whispered conspiratorially, but not at all quiet enough to prevent Enzo from hearing her. “He’s pulling out the big guns. Using my government name. If he kills me, Francesca, remember me fondly. Clear my browser history and fondle me at least once at my funeral, alright?” She finished with a wink and the cheesy finger guns that were usually reserved only for creepy uncles, but somehow, Lexi managed to make it look cool.
I tried to contain my laugh, but ended up releasing a very unladylike snort instead, which threw Lexi into another fit of laughter, turning her head away to try to hide it. Enzo, however, was not amused. He stared at us like a couple of naughty children, two delinquent schoolgirls in need of punishment.
Holy shit. I need to get out of this porn palace. It was warping my thoughts.
Settling my face into some semblance of seriousness, I faced Enzo. He shot me another dirty look, then turned again to Lexi.
“Alexis,” he repeated. “This is an employees only area. You know this.”
“Oh, yeah. Of course, Enzo. But, you know. Francesca is…um…your.... Well, I mean…”, she looked at me, trailing off, unsure how to complete her sentence.
Taking pity on her, I stepped toward Enzo, my chin high to try and compensate for the fact that he was towering over both of us like an ogre. It’s not that I was intimidated. Not at all. But, honestly, could I not have been blessed with just alittlemore height? Being only five-three made it difficult to convince people I meant business, so I had to make up for it with confidence and general badassery.
“Enzo,” I said amicably. “I apologize. It was me who broke the rules. I was waiting in the lobby, but then my curiosity got the better of me and I couldn’t help myself.”
He eyed me suspiciously, and I amped up my smile, which in turn only made him more suspicious. I guess he had a right to be; it’s not like we had done a lot of smiling at each other in our time together.
I tried another tactic. “Look,” I said, crossing my arms over my chest. The way his eyes dropped to my suddenly plumped up breasts sent my heart fluttering, but I locked that bitch down.
Not a chance, heart.
“It’s not Lexi’s fault. I basically pushed my way back here, and I’ve just been looking around. She gave me a little run down of the system, and it’s really genius. In fact, I was thinking that maybe you could try—”
“Francesca,” he cut me off sternly. “This ismybusiness. A business which has been running quite successfully, I might add, for the last several years. I don’t need you meddling around in here, regardless of our…relationship status.” My eyebrows rose as I stared at him.
Meddling? Was he for real?
