“Please.” Things just seem so easy with him, but they always are in the beginning.
“My sister called me today,” he says, dishing some food onto my plate.
“That’s nice.”
“It’s my niece’s eighth birthday in a few weeks. Will you come with me? I’d love for you to meet my family.”
The fork in my hand pauses halfway to my mouth. “You want to introduce me to your family?”
“Of course. Why wouldn’t I?”
“You barely know me.”
He shrugs. “I know enough.”
“Do you take all your girlfriends home to meet your parents so early in a relationship?” A huge smile explodes onto his face. “What?” My eyes narrow slightly as I wait for his reply.
“You just implied that you’re my girlfriend.”
“No, I didn’t,” I shriek. “I was just speaking generally.”
“I’m sorry, but you did.”
“I did not!”
“You can’t take it back now.”
“There’s nothing to take back.”
“For the record, I love being your boyfriend.”
“Oh my god, I’m not your girlfriend,” I say, fighting a smile.
He reaches across the table and grabs my hand, as his facial expression turns deadly serious. “I want you to be. I want that more than I’ve wanted anything in my life.”
Those words both scare and excite me.
CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
Logan
I’m grinning the moment I open my eyes. Brooke is still fast asleep in my arms, her back pressed against my front. It was late when we headed to bed last night. After dinner we moved onto the sofa, where we finished off the bottle of wine and just talked about anything and everything. I’ve always loved the solitude of my home, but last night I realised something: it’s far more pleasant when there’s someone to share it with.
My grip on her tightens as I bring my face forward to plant a soft kiss on her bare shoulder. She stirs, so I lightly nip at her earlobe before sucking it into my mouth. “Morning, beautiful.”
“Morning, Hot Stuff.” My smile widens. I’ve known that’s her pet name for me since finding it in her phone, but it’s the first time she’s actually said it.
She turns in my arms, brushing her lips against mine. When I walked her to her room last night, I gave her what was meant to be an innocent goodnight kiss. For her sake I’m trying my best to slow things down, but the kiss went from zero to a thousand in a millisecond. The chemistry between us is off the charts, so before I knew it, I had her pinned against the wall, and clothes where flying everywhere.
“Will you come shopping with me today?” I tuck her hair behind her ear as I speak. “I need your help to pick out a gift for my niece.”
“I haven’t said I’m going to the party with you yet.”
“I know, but I still have a few weeks to rectify that.”
She laughs. Pushing her onto her back, I move my body over hers. I rain tiny kisses along her jawline, and down her neck. We were going at it until the early hours of the morning, but I’ve yet to have my fill. I’m not sure I ever will with this one. She’s under my skin, and the grip she has on my heart seems to be tightening with each passing day.
My mouth travels down to her cleavage.
