The giant named Bear smiled, and it was surprisingly friendly. He seemed so imposing that I would have thought his smile would be more dangerous than warm, but it lit up his whole face and turned him from grumpy and stoic to a teddy bear in seconds. “The third member of our team is currently doing a sweep at the rink, but you’ll meet him soon, I’m sure.”
Bear was easily the most imposing. Towering over me, his face was sharp and angular. A faint scar ran from under his left eye to his cheek, and I almost winced at the sight of it. No matter how he got that scar, it must have been painful. It made him look all the more imposing and dangerous, which I guess was good for a security guard.
Spencer, on the other hand, was slightly smaller, but everything about him screamed Viking. Long blond hair that fell around his face, piercing blue eyes, and a hardened look that contrasted with the pristine suit he wore.
“It’s nice to meet you,” I said, shaking their hands.
“You need anything, don’t hesitate to call us. We’re here to look after your pack, however they need it,” Spencer said, smiling at me as he spoke.
“Oh, I’m not…I mean…”
“Thank you.” Devin directed his words at the two security guards before turning to me. “You’ll see these guys around plenty, but I think it’s time for us to head up to our place because lunch has already started, and I think you’re going to love it.”
He gently guided me out of the room and toward the elevator. The rest of his pack mates followed us.
“What’s for lunch?” I asked, my stomach rumbling and mouth-watering.
Devin grinned, devilish enough to make my pulse flicker. “You’ll see.”
As soon as I saw the dining room table, my mouth dropped open, and I grinned from ear to ear.
“Breakfast for lunch?”
They had gone all out. The table was piled high with stacks of pancakes, waffles, sausage links, and any other breakfast foods you could imagine. There were even six different kinds of cereal. There were eggs, there were breads, there was anything a breakfast fan like me would want laid out across the table.
“I even made sure there were cinnamon sugar Pop-Tarts in the apartment after you said they were the elite Pop-Tarts, so that’s worked out well!” Percy said, wrapping his arm around me and kissing the top of my head.
“Grab a plate and dig in!” Saint gestured to the table, a massive grin on his face.
All four of them waited while I plated some food for myself before diving in and filling their own. It was a small gesture, letting me go first, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, feeling that overwhelming sense of care again.
With our plates piled high, we made our way into the living room, where the couch was nowcoveredin blankets. When I had visited the penthouse last time, it had been sleek, cold leather. Now, it looked like a squishy little heaven. Thankfully, it was so obnoxiously large that it could fit all five of us easily.
Okay, I have to admit…this is nice.
I sat in the corner as Devin chose the spot next to me, and Jasper squeezed in on my left. Saint sat on the floor, his plate on the coffee table, and Percy set up shop on Devin’s opposite side.
Grabbing the remote, Saint started scrolling through the various shows available via the multiple streaming services. “What do you want to watch, sweetness?”
“I’m happy to watch anything,” I said, far more concerned with the plate in front of me than what was on the TV.
“Hey! Isn’t that the new documentary on farming that just came out?” Jasper asked, turning to me. “You mentioned wanting to watch that.”
“I’m down to watch that,” Saint said. “The presenter is hilarious.”
Percy and Devin both nodded in agreement, so Saint turned the show on while we dug into our food.
A happy hum escaped my chest as I took the first bite of maple sausage paired with fluffy buttermilk pancakes. The longer I enjoyed the perfect combination of flavors, the more the sound turned into a delighted moan. Then I noticed the room had gone quiet.
Every single alpha in the room turned to gape at me.
“Sorry,” I mumbled around my mouth full of food. “It’s really good.”
“Don’t apologize.” Percy chuckled, his bright blue eyes sparkling. “It’s just…I think all of us got a boner from that sound.”
My eyes widened, and I spluttered. Surely, I didn’t affect themthatmuch?
“Well, I—Oh.” I was cut off when something tugged deep inside me. Placing my plate down, I dropped my hand to my stomach, where the sensation had emanated from.
