Jasper looked a little nauseated at the thought. But there was a slight nod, too. He knew I had a point.
Percy cocked his head to the side, deep in thought. “I think we can get Mable to like us, show her we care. We aren’t totally inept.”
“So, we are all in agreement that we want to court Mable?” I asked, even though the answer was pretty much guaranteed.
“Fuck yeah,” Jasper replied, his tone implying I was stupid for asking.
“Yes.” Percy nodded.
“Of course,” Saint chimed in. “We canwoo.”
“Woo, not seduce!” Percy said pointedly to Saint.
Rolling my eyes at them, I turned in the driver’s seat to glare at my pack mates. “Look, we need to go in and get into our gear. Coach will be pissed if we’re late. I just want to make sure we are all on the same page. We need to startwooingMable as a solo omega regardless of her pregnancy. If she thinks we only like her because she’s pregnant, she’s going to walk away.”
“But we liked her way before we found out she was pregnant,” Saint pointed out. “We’ve liked her for nearly two years.”
Yes, the nature of our pen pal relationship did complicate matters somewhat, but it also helped.
“And that’s an advantage, for sure. We have to prove to her that we like her for who she is—and we are also all on board with the baby. It’s a delicate balancing act.”
We all looked at each other as we got out of the car, everyone nodding and making various sounds of agreement. We each took care of our shit, making sure nothing was left behind in the car, but I couldn’t ignore the way my gut twisted into knots at the thought of Mable saying no.
She couldn’t. But it was onusto make sure of that.
“It’s all new, and also not new,” Percy said as he pulled his gear bag out of the trunk of the car. “It’s a mindfuck.”
That was one way to put it.
Thankfully, we had gone through a gate toward the back entrance to the arena that was guarded, so there were no fans aswe made our way into the arena. Unlike the penthouse there was sadly no underground garage.
Usually, when I stepped foot in the arena for a game, I would be hit by that inexplicable excitement that was a regular part of being an athlete. It had been that way since I was a child, but now it felt different.
Like someone was missing.
Chapter 21
Percy
Mable
It’s late, I’m tired, so tell me why all I can think about is sour candy?
Mable
I don’t even like sour candy!
Percy
Maybe the baby is a big fan of sour candy?
Mable
Well, someone needs to tell the baby that cravings are only allowed between the hours of 10am and 4pm, when I can easily get to a store!
Percy
How rude of them!
