“Maybe one day.” I smiled, meaning it. “So, was there any particular reason you called?”

“Nope, I just wanted to talk to you.”

“Well… we are talking.” I giggled. The conversation wasn’t awkward; it was enjoyable.

“So, let’s have some fun. Truth or dare?”

“I’m sorry, what?” I sat up in my bed, looking at nothing really as J’s chuckle rang through the line.

“Truth or dare. I know you’ve played, so come on. Let’s make this phone call interesting.”

How had the conversation gotten to this point? One second, we were chatting about mundane things, and the next, I’m being asked to play Truth or Dare by J. He was such a butthead, like an overly excited puppy. And still…I wasn’t saying no.

“Okay, truth.”

“Hmm,” he hummed, his tone all mischievous. “What are you wearing, princess?”

My cheeks flushed.Oh. I think I know exactly how this game is going to go.I swallowed, chewing on my lip. Did Iwantto engage? I could easily shoot him down, and he wouldn’t even bat an eye—he was amazingly unflappable like that.

“Do youreallywant me to answer that?”

“Failure to answer a truth immediately reverts to a dare, so your choice.”

I could already tell where this was heading from the start of that particular conversation, not to mention the few pictures he and his pack mates had sent me, and I really didn’t know what to do with that. I wasn’t exactly good at flirting. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be, but it was alsosomethingto be wanted like this.

“Tick tock, my cute Maple girl.”

“How do you know I’m cute? I could be a downright ugly omega.”

J hummed again, like he was amused by the very notion. “I think I’ll take my chances. Now, what are you wearing?”

“Pajama shorts and tank top. Good enough?” I looked down at myself. I hadn’t lied. That’s exactly what I was wearing.

“Is that all?” J crooned.

“Yes.” I wasn’t sure why he wanted confirmation. I mean, I was inside. It wasn’t like I was packing a parka, too.

“Good. My turn. I choose dare.”

I rolled my eyes to myself. Of course, he did.

“I dare you to…” A giggle escaped me, and I couldn’t believe I was about to say these words, but I was feeling oddly bold and forward. “...take off your shirt.”

“Too late. Not wearing one.”

My eyes bulged, and my mouth went dry imagining what that might look like, based on what I knew of J.

“Oh. Umm…I guess you can?—”

“Take off my sweats? Excellent idea.” There was a shuffling sound before I could do anything else, and then J was back on the line. “Done. And damn, these sheets feel nice against my skin.”

Cheeks on fire, I squeaked, “You’re naked?”

“Completely. Your turn.” He sounded so goddamned happy with himself. “Say dare.”

Dammit. This was getting a bit steamy, and I was such a newbie at this. I’d never had phone sex in my life. But hey, there was a first time for everything, right?

Right.
