“Lucifer wanted to gloat. You’re the first Reaper to send him a soul within hours of signing your contract. It’s a new record,” Mammoth informed me.
“He’s fucking proud,” Grim added as he shook his head. “You’re in for it now. You’re the favorite.”
I didn’t like the sound of that.
“Don’t worry,” Rael snickered. “Lucifer always has fun games.”
The rest of the guys flipped him off.
They didn’t need to tell me that the devil was a pain in the ass. I already experienced it. Still, I was alive. I had my woman. I’d found a home and a brotherhood.
Life was pretty fucking good.
Chapter 10 Lainey
“That’s the perfect costume.” Pagan’s hands slid over my hips and down the sparkly fabric, careful not to snag my fishnet tights. “Sexy as fuck. I want to devour you.”
I chose a witch. Well, a sensual witch since the skirt was only knee length, and the corset hugged my waist. A big black hat perched on my head. I had black nails and sparkly makeup on my face. It had only taken thirty minutes to curl my hair and apply cosmetics. I thought it was fantastic.
Pagan paced the floor and growled every time he looked at me until I was finished, only to declare that I looked too fucking tempting to take outside for the club’s annual Halloween party.
“Is that because you’d rather eat me than share me?” I asked playfully, batting my fake eyelashes.
I looked damn good, and I knew it.
“Darlin’, if I wanted to gobble you up in front of the guests, I would.” He winked as I smirked at his dirty implication. “I’d drop to my knees and stick my head under your skirt and eat your pussy without caring who heard your moans.”
“Now you’re just showing off,” I laughed.
“What? I could do it.”
“Death by asphyxiation?” I teased.
He slapped a hand over his chest. “What a way to go.”
I giggled as I pushed him away and smoothed my skirt. “This outfit needs to last for several hours. No ripping the tights.”
“Can I rip ’em later when I go down on you?”
Yes, please.“Of course.”
That seemed to appease him.
Pagan’s costume was a lot simpler than mine. He was going to the party as, you guessed it, a Reaper. The only thing he addedwas the skeletal black and white makeup that Rael seemed to wear on a daily basis.
We left the room, and I slipped my hand around his bicep, walking beside my favorite person in the world. Pagan had become my protector, lover, and friend. He was everything I ever wanted in a relationship. My personal wish list molded into the perfect man.
By the time we arrived, the party had already started. Eerie Halloween music filtered across the parking lot as ghostly wails and rattling chains echoed in the cooler night air. Purple and orange lights competed with clusters of candles strategically scattered around the perimeter to provide ambiance.
Yes, I organized that along with most of the décor. Trish appointed me master delegator, and I had most of the members and prospects handling the bulk of the work. Trish and quite a few of the ol’ ladies took charge of the menu and refused to let the guys stand in front of a hot grill all night.
This event was meant to be enjoyed by everyone, so the prep finished an hour before the festivities began.
As we walked through the maze of carnival games, I heard the giant reaper I bought the day I met Pagan.
“Did you hear that?”
“Yeah.” He shook his head at the sounds coming from the speakers. “It’s creepy. The kids are loving it.”
