“What if I change my mind?”

They burst out in laughter.

“Change your mind?” Zsesux drew back. “You belong to us and soon your ownership will be transferred to someone on Xa’Karth.” He laughed. “Silly pet.”

With a pout, I watched Noboru and Zsesux share a meal and then play a game that reminded me of checkers. They gave me little notice, and my stomach growled loud enough they jumped.

“What was that?” Noboru came over and crouched down to look me over.

Sighing, I dropped my head to my knees. “My stomach. I’m hungry.”

“Why didn’t you say anything?” He opened the door to my cage. “Come out, we can’t deliver you in a less than perfect state.”

“What in the planet’s hell are you doing?” Zsesux snapped. “You can’t just let her out!”

“Shilin was very specific that this one should be treated like a princess.” Noboru offered me a hand. “She is to be a special gift, and the instructions were to be gentle.”

I shivered standing there, and my bottom lip pushed out in a pout. “I’m cold.”

“You sure are whiney.” Zsesux noted.

“Well, gee, I was kidnapped by a giant snake and whatever the hell you are.” I motioned to Noboru. “Then I woke up naked in a cage flying through space!”

“I think Shilin will be delighted with this one.” Noboru laughed. “You’re feisty.”

“Who the hell is Shilin?”

Noboru walked over to a small door, opened it, and took out a blanket. He came back to me, wrapping it around my shoulders, then motioned for me to take a seat.

“Shilin is the person who was searching for you.” He walked over to the small bar at the back of the room and loaded up a plate with food.

I watched as he filled a chalice with a beverage, and he came to sit in the chair beside me. He handed the plate to me. “Some delicacies from around the galaxy.”

I snuggled into my soft blanket and looked over the items. Nothing looked familiar.

“What is it?”

“It’s food you, kaimoisk.” Zsesux rolled his eyes. “Good thing he wasn’t looking for brains.”

“What did you call me?” I reached out, picking up a small ball.

“Idiot.” He deadpanned.

I threw the ball at him, watching it splatter on impact. He tried to jump up from his seat, but Noboru aimed a small gun at him.

“Zsesux.” He cleared his throat. “I saved you from the guards, and the deal we made requires you to act accordingly.”

“And you’ll be very rich if you bump me off.” Zsesux hissed.

“Now that we understand each other.” Noboru set his gun down. “Everything on the plate is a fruit. And your drink is a special juice made on a small moon called Dinvoria.”

I sipped the juice and found it to have a pleasant strawberry-like taste that fizzed on my tongue. Then I looked over all the different fruit shapes and settled on the one I threw at Zsesux.

My lips wrapped around it as I bit it in half and felt it explode in my mouth. This one reminded me of a melon with its sweet, musky flavor.

Relaxing, I took my time eating everything on my plate, and I sucked down the sweet juice. Sitting there with the blanket wrapped around me, I felt drowsy.

“Did you put something in the food to make me sleep?” I narrowed my eyes at Noboru.
